It seems that Ohtaka-sensei paved a road for the grand finale but somehow veered off the track, and it made the last arc a mixed bag of sorts... it simply wasn't up to par with everything else.

magi is a masterpiece of interweaving politics, particularly class conflict and imperialism, within a fantasy universe. it's really sad how so many people missed the references to the kou family split as referencing the chinese civil war, magnostat as a criticism of the apartheid state of Israel, and the use of Sinbad to discuss the American empire and soft power imperialism. sad that the editors fucked over the ending but i love magi so so much!!!
