Sanji ISN'T weaker that Zoro. They are equal in strength. Have you ever seen Zoro defeat Sanji in their silly fights? No. They're equals, that's how Oda has made them. Behind Luffy, Sanji and Zoro stand at the same level of strength. That's why they're called the monster trio.
Please don't fight about this. Forums are full of fans comparing them... it's painful. I love Sanji and I love Zoro. They are my favorite characters, for different reasons. Both of them are amazing, all the strawhats are great.

His main role is cook of the SH. The fact that his main role is a cook, he can fight and be the 3rd strongest fighter in the crew WHILE Zoro FOCUS ON FIGHTING on the time. Like....dude....Zoro was build for a fight, he train even on ship. Sanji meanwhile spent most of his time with swooning and cooking...duh
and now he even has a background from Assassin family... I love Oda so much for this <3
