The finally find love but the main cause of their issues (Souma) gives Ma a chance to live the life he deserves. I honestly believe that Souma feels he's too corrupted to keep Ma by his side. It also loves life isn't a fairytale nor is it fair. I think Souma lives, it doesn't look to be a fatal injury but hey he could've nicked an artery. This manga isn't for the faint of heart so proceed with caution.
