Exactly, I felt the same way. The stories are not happening at the same time.
For us readers, it could be misleading cause when you read the spin off, the story more or less starts from that near kiss here and then we are shown further events between the two immediately so we kinda jump to conclusion that they happened right after each other and we linked it to the latest events in this series. BUT the evens in the spin-off could have happened weeks later, so yeah I agree with you guys.
