What does Asami mean by "You... don't have that kind of value"?

Asami means that Aki is worth more to him then it appears. Aki just thinks Asami doesn't want him to go because he doesn't feel like helping him save his friends. However, in reality he doesn't want Aki to go into a dangerous situation, because if something happens to Aki how much Asami cares about Aki will become apparent to his enemies. Which is dangerous for the both of them.

Yep, Eclipse216 said it all. In this scene, Aki wants Asami to let him go and save his friends and doesn't actually understand why he's trying to stop him. That's why he asked him: "What do you mean you won't let me go? And yet whatever happens to me you won't know anything about it!". He clearly thinks he's nothing to Asami than a random temporary (sex)toy, and that if he dies or get hurt then Asami won't even care. But without revealing his true attachment to Aki, Asami always send some subliminal messages showing how he actually cares for Aki. Most of the time, he prefers actions rather than words, but here, he literally admited that Aki is special to him by saying: ""You... don't have that kind of value", meaning: "You are way more precious to me than you think". So not only he cares if Aki gets hurt but he will also do all his possible to avoid such a thing to happen. Protecting Aki is his priority... and it was the case since the first time they met. I am telling you, it was Love at first sight between these two :P (But I undersant why Aki is always confused and wondering if he worth something to Asami. The guy speaks barely and when he does, it's only to impose his domination and power to the poor Aki^^).

I disagree with the other replies. I think this was Asami in denial. Yes, he doesn't want Aki to walk into a dangerous situation, but that's not what Aki is asking. He's asking Asami to intervene and Asami won't do it and says so firmly again, after he drugs Aki. He doesn't drug Aki to keep him safe. If that was true, he wouldn't have abandoned him alone at the hotel.

This was not love at first sight for either of them. It was lust at first sight for Asami. He didn't begin developing real feelings until Bodychase, feelings he is still attempting to downplay in this scene. His words echo throughout the rest of the Naked Truth arc, which forces both Asami and Aki to acknowledge that yes, Aki does have that kind of value and then some.

I like the expression "Lust at first sight"! This is exactly what happened. But I think Asami wanted to protect Aki by druging him in that scene because he knew how much he can act stupidly. About what he said "You don't have that kind of value"... It's pretty confusing. Hard to say what he meant exactly. Maybe if we get the japanese exact translation it would help a little bit.

aki asked asami's help to save his friends, but asami didn't do anything ! coz aki's wishes requests and need wasn't realy something asami do care at that time, he wasn't someone with much value, he didn't want him to be killed , it was all what he can do for akihito! he said the car is waiting for me, he went to his apointement and that's all, but things changed dramatically, when he misunderstanding fei long target, it's when you lose someone or something that you realise his value, fei long kinaping akihito waked asami feelings ? it's my point of view I may be wrong.

It's really hard to tell because Asami thought the best way of solving this problem is to do nothing. As a Mafia guy, he for sure has a radical way of thinking...althought, quite pragmatic. I mean, he said to Aki either you do something and save your two friends lives and then dozens of people will die (their names were in the list that Fei Long requested), or you do nothing and then the victims will be "only" your firends (and dozens of people will be safe). As for AKi's value... I think he had a protective behaviour with him since the beginning. He saved him from this old policeman whom Aki considered as a father... He could let Aki deal with his own shit, but he came and saved him. He also saved him the first time from Fei Long... But then he told Aki: "Don't misunderstand the situation, I only don't want other people to touch what I own". That's why I can not really tell if his protective side was guided by his ego or only his humanism and feelings towards Aki. I think Seinsei wanted to create this mysterious part on purpose... Just like Aki, we will always wonder what Asami's true feelings are!

I thought it was sarcasm that went over Aki's head.

Honestly...i think too he meant like aki was kind of nothing for him or st least not that much he was asking. But he surely was protecting him...by drugging him and telling him that. Why would he fly over to hong kong just to get him back? He tried to deny he cared...but in the end he ended up doing more...its a lil bit twisted this part xD
