So did the uke never take a customer? I'm confused... I know he had a hard life or whatever but it seems like they were pretty lenient on him. Only the seme was the one who was actually cruel to the uke throughout the whole story...

Kagerou was sold into prostitution by his own grandmother as a child and lived ten years as a sex slave. That's more than a hard life. That's a horror. He clearly hated what he was being made to do. Yes, he took many customers. He talked about it with Kichou, how much he hated it. It just wasn't shown in the manga, except for the one that tried to kill him.

Along with the other prostitutes, he was locked in that district, not allowed to leave, had his food restricted, was occasionally imprisoned and beaten. He could only leave when he had paid back the amount of money the brothel paid for him, plus interest, I imagine. The only way he could pay back the money was by taking customers or by being ransomed by a customer. So he could occasionally refuse customers, but that just meant he had lost an opportunity to pay off what he owed. The more customers, the faster his debt would be paid. A nasty little arrangement.

A tragic situation. His grandmother, hope she fricken got her head smashed in for selling him off. Glad he ended up happy.
