He kiled #2 popular character and SnK mascot (colossal titan) in one chapter. Brave eh?

I predicted this soon after reading chapter 83. Even though I wanted Erwin to be the one to live and there were countless reasons to validate his worthiness, I knew that he didn't stand a chance. Even though it seemed like a no-brainer to choose a seasoned veteran like Erwin over a novice like Armin, I had a few reasons for why Armin was going to be the chosen one. 1) Armin is the narrator of the series and it's almost unheard of to kill off the narrator. 2) In the original ending of AoT, Armin was supposed to be a sole survivor. And 3) Most of the fanbase would have thrown a huge fit. I feel like the conclusion of this chapter was too predictable, but it is what it is.
Initially, I was infuriated that my favorite character was killed off. But after taking a few days to compose myself and ponder Levi's reasoning, I can now say that I'm content with his decision. I realized that Levi did a selfless thing by granting Erwin a well deserved rest. Levi would have wanted nothing more than to bring his closest friend back from the brink to fight the good fight together, but he didn't want to drag him back to the perpetual hell they currently live in. During his decision making process, I think Levi stopped thinking about what he wanted and started considering what Erwin would want. When Erwin charged onto the battlefield, he was prepared to die. He explained this to Levi, thanked him, and gave him a smile. I'm still upset about my favorite character being gone, but I know it was in his best interest.
On the bright side, at least that vile rat Bertholdt is dead (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
