Not at all, I completely disagree.
Tatsuya thinks so little of himself and that makes his character a scared and cowardly person. But that doesn't mean he doesn't know what he wants.
Tatsuya has been making progress, slowly but surely. He opened up to Suruga (about his fam), and he told Masa that he wanted to get to know Suruga. And during that kiss thing w/ Masa vs Suruga he kissed Suruga the second time (didnt he pull Suruga towards him?).
Time IS passing throughout the story and you see their relationship and Tatsuya progress over time. What would be the point of Tatsuya staying a scared coward for the rest of his life who always denies himself what he wants? How would they even get together? If they got together, cuz of Sugura, then how would they stay together w/o Tatsuya taking a chance too?
Tatsuya was regretful of their fight and the things he said that he didn't really mean. And in his pov, impulsive Sugura who does what he says, is avoiding him and not talking to him. Ofc he was terrified that Sugura would just leave him and run away. He's in love with Sugura !!! What did you think he was gonna do, just sit at home and be like oh well it's too bad that the guy i'm in love with is gonna get suspended and he's never gonna talk to me again and i'm never gonna see him again.
I agree!!! I'm glad that you said what I was thinking. So many people are saying that the plot is going too fast or it was weird, but I think that this is a good time to go back to the main story. I like Masa and Shige's storyline, but Tatsuya is like a precious child too.
LOL i'm glad i'm not the only one too. idk why ppl think this story line is too fast. Tatsuya and Sugura are actually making slow progress and you can see time passing! Also Masa was literally in love with Tatsuya for yearssssss and he didnt even notice Shige until idk how long ago (don't get me wrong i love them too). I just don't think that ppl's complaints about this manga actually relate to what's going on lmao. Tatsuya is a precious squish and I'm glad he's starting to allow himself good things in his life. He deserves all the happiness.
My problem isn't that Tatsuya starts to have feelings for Sugura, or in fact even goes looking for him. That's all in character and led up to by the storyline. It is what happens when they meet in that final scene. Tatsuya has never been demonstrative about how he felt, except for yelling, and even doing that in a fit of temper made him uncomfortable. That was one part of the dynamic of the relationship that the rest liked, how Sugura could get under Tatsuya's skin, make him lose his cool, and had as a result made him more alive.
But for Tatsuya to go from a realization that he may miss Sugura and fear of his leaving to flinging himself in his arms and kissing him in public just seems to be missing a link. I expected some sort of conversation that wasn't quite the confession, but tending that way. Had it been Sugura, who is far more demonstrative than Tatsuya about what he wants, who then kissed Tatsuya without being pushed away, would have seemed in keeping with both characters and their emotions.
This isn't the first time he's missed Suruga! It has bothered him before when he couldn't reach him, or see him, or talk to him. He's missed Sugura when he was busy with work. This time Suruga actually said he wouldn't see him and followed through that fuelled his desperation (+ the suspension). Ofc (imo) he's fearful cuz he took it for granted before, since Suruga is so aggressive with his feelings and doesn't hold back. Suruga is the demonstrative one, like you said. But wouldn't it be terrifying if they suddenly stopped?
During the Masa vs Sugura kiss thing, Tatsuya reached for Suruga the second time around on his own, he initiated a second kiss and held onto him, knowing his childhood best friend is still there. And he didn't kiss him in a street or in a hallway at school. He kissed him when they ran to meet each other. It probably felt more private to him then it would to us, cuz only Sugura is on his mind. I think that’s exactly why he acted that way, cuz he was that desperate and scared CUZ it’s Suruga.
Tatsuya knows what he wants. He’s denied it vehemently before, but you have to know something to try and pretend it’s not true right? I think it’s one of those “you don’t know what you have til it’s gone” type of scenarios.
Re Masa vs Sugura; I rather thought Tatsuya was too shocked by events to respond actively to either. It was his inner reaction that was different and telling. Whereas Masa's kiss was just a shock, Sugura's was that but also an experience he lost himself in. But we as readers have the luxury of knowledge. But passively accepting a kiss forced on you is still a far cry from being willing to openly kissing another guy. I have yet to see a moment when Tatsuya even admits to himself that he's inclined that way or even has strong feelings for Sugura. To not want to see him gone is one thing, but to admit to himself why is another. We were getting there, like so close with all those memories, but it wasn't the same thing.
So I'm not sure I follow the logic of your argument that because someone is in denial they must know what they 'really' want. Lots of people are in denial about a great many aspects of their lives and life in general, and it wouldn't work if they really knew what they were doing all along. When people are in denial what they really want is to believe otherwise than what is, and some manage to convince themselves to the point it does become real. Which is also why it can be a nasty surprise to find out you have been if not deluding yourself, very mistaken, and an act of self discovery- which is more what I think is what happened to Tatsuya.
You're really really underestimating Tatsuya. At the very least, you don't even think that Tatsuya is attracted to him? Because he is. He has on a few separate occasions been physically attracted to Sugura. HE THINKS HE’S HOT. And I keep mentioning the Masa VS Suruga thing CUZ they kissed twice. First, Masa forced himself, and then Suruga did. But he stopped and they kissed a second time like right after, and Tatsuya was calm about it and very willing, and if i remember correctly, pulled Tatsuya towards him. That was mutual.
I can’t remember your original point anymore, but are you trying to say that Tatsuya hasn’t fallen for/started falling for him? Or are you saying he doesn’t know what he feels? The thing about emotional highs is that it makes ppl do things that are ooc or things they’d hesitate about if they thought about it too much. You’re not thinking; you’re just acting on what you want to do, on your instincts.
Why do we deny things? Because they’re not true? Ofc, cuz we wish they weren’t. It’d be way easier and simple if they were. idk why u think Tatsuya successfully deluded himself. He’s admitted to missing Suruga before, he knows that he gets to him, makes him react, and gets under his skin. He knows he finds him hot even he doesn’t know why or thinks he shouldn’t. He knows there’s a difference b/w Suruga and Masa (+ the rest of their crew). He admitted he wanted to get to know him better and be closer to him. I don’t think what’s scary is that he likes him at all, I think what’s terrifying is how much and how he can’t just not do anything about it like he usually does. He can’t deny what he feels any longer. He can’t just sit still and do nothing and be passive and a scared coward like usual. Cuz doing nothing; inaction is a lot scarier than not having Tatsuya in his life.
First, I'm not denying that Tatsuya feels an attraction towards Sugura, and while he may in part have been attracted, he was first and foremost annoyed by Sugura and the way he turned his life upside down. At the same time, there was a strange sympathy between the two that made Tatsuya want to know him better. So he's been torn until this last ch., wanting and not wanting, and not really knowing what he wants. What seemed to be missing before that final scene, was at least a bit more self realization from Tatsuya about his feelings and wants that would link him worrying about Sugura and missing him to admitting feeling a great deal more- like openly thinking "I LOVE him!!!" But all we see are flashbacks of Sugura, which probably means he's fallen or is falling for him, but that isn't quite the same for someone who's about to act out of character. (In my experience ppl who don't openly admit to themselves how they feel but suddenly act on it, only deny it later as being the other persons fault or something along those lines- i.e. take it back.)
Second, that 1st kiss, they were on the floor with Sugura on top. Tatsuya's hands ended up on Sugura's shoulders, neither pushing nor pulling- but he did close his eyes unlike with Masa.
Third, nowhere have I said that Tatsuya didn't have feelings or miss Sugura. My ONLY issue was that last scene when he flung himself into Sugura's arms and kissed him INSTEAD of merely talking to him and telling him how he felt, which I think is just too much of an emotional leap with not enough leading up to justify it. Now obviously you don't agree, but is that because you as the reader have the luxury of knowing Tatsuya's 'real' feelings all along or because you think this is actually psychologically true to life?
1.) It’s nice to know that we do agree on some things. There is no doubt that Tatsuya is attracted to Suruga. And ofc he was annoyed at first! A total random showed up out of nowhere, going at his own pace, and wouldn’t listen to him and had the gall to affect him so greatly!!! We’ve already seen Tatsuya blame Suruga. When he got a boner cuz of the sex scene in the movie he was in, he blamed Suruga for making him watch it when he’s the one who’s attracted and got turned on (cuz he think he’s so hot). He has been doing that step. Or he’s on it I suppose?
2.) noooooooo you’re wrong. I’m going to sound rude and I’m sorry. But this is literally one of my fav scenes in the entire manga and it’s infuriating that you can’t even remember it properly. It’s in ch7 and about the last 5-6 pages or so. I explained but I suppose you don’t believe me or something. First, Masa kissed Tatsuya. Second, Suruga kissed Tatsuya (whose legs gave away + Suruga pushed him on the ground and held his arms down) Third, Tatsuya/Suruga gave each other idk sexy/turned on faces AND TATSUYA TUGGED ON HIS ARM and they kissed again. You could say that he initiated it since he did the sexy face thing and this time put his arms on Suruga’s shoulders to comfortably kiss him. And! he! was! calm! about! it! And it was mutual.
3.) Again, can we stress the fact that he was in an emotional high. He wasn’t thinking, he was just acting. What did you want????????? a confession????????????????????? I think you’re overthinking the kiss, cuz like I’ve been trying to say Tatsuya is at the least physically attracted to him and knows that and is even accepting of it even though he doesn’t fully understand why. And he’s has participated mutually/initiated/been a willing participant before.
3.5) As a reader, we can assume that Tatsuya is in love with him. We saw as time passed that his feelings appeared and grew. We watched it happen. And cuz of this, we also know that Tatsuya was extremely worried/distressed/scared. Fear is one of the most instinctual and primal emotions and it affects us greatly on a biological/psychological level. Tatsuya was scared shitless cuz he loves Suruga. In the latest ch, he was saying how Suruga is out of his league! And what would happen if they were together !!!!
4.) all he did was dramatically hug him and kiss and tell him not to go. It’s not like he threw himself into his arms and told him to take him to bed or to marry him. He asked him not to go. He doesn’t want him to leave and he told him that. it’s just that simple.
4.5) it is sooo much easier to admit to a physical attraction than it is an emotional one. how much scarier that would be for anyone? especially someone like Tatsuya?
I think it’d have been beyond ooc for Tatsuya to have confessed first. kissing is something they’ve done a lot. it’s a lot easier and more comfortable to do. Admitting he likes him is a lot harder.

I'm so glad this updated! Thank you. And what an emotional update that was. Is it just me, or did anyone else also feel that Tatsuya's emtotional about-face at the end was a bit too much, and too soon? That he went from strenuously being in denial, to finally that last day or so admitting worrying about Sugura and possibly missing him, to throwing himself into Sugura's arms and kissing him in public with no restraint.
I get the line of reasoning, -so upset and distraught, emotionally worn down and fear of losing Sagura that he acts out of character. I just like it a whole lot better when they get together without having to do this sort of 'character' gymnastics.
