It is sad. But if I was Ishida, I'd just laugh. Their ship wasn't grounded in anything but fantasy anyway. Who were the pairs? KanekixHide? ArimaxKaneki? ToukaxKaneki was obvious from way early on.
Like, ship who you want. Even if it's far-fetched. You have that freedom, but expecting your stretch of a ship to become canon is just like... #superfacepalm.

Its so sad how some people (mostly fujoshis) told ishida to commit suicide just because their ship didnt happen im so fucking disappointed in this fandom.
