I've read the chapters again and am I the only one that think that this page here and the next one mean that Akitora is not actually hetero and he just married and had a child to fulfill his duty as yakuza? The more I analize this manga the more it seems correct.

Also, if this theory is correct these words between Asoda and Akitora make more sense.

I share the same view, and I reckon so did Akitora's son. I think it's one of the reason Rogi was declared protected by Tatsuyuki in another story of this series. When Rogi had sexually toyed with Tatsuyuki to get his father's attention.

Eh, I disagree. They seem to be discouraging him from entering into the yakuza life in general. Akitora didn't have a choice, as an heir, about being part of the world.

Yes, but the fact that in more than one chapter there is a strange insistence about the fact that yazuka makes you not being your true self/being a different person got me thinking. And the fact that Beriko always shows us Asoda being gloomy after certain words from Akitora it's some kind of hint to me. It's just a theory though.

    I agree with this =O

I see it as Akitora liking that Rogi is just himself and doesn't put boundaries. He's saying, "I was like that, and I enjoyed it, but I had to buckle down to be an organization man who is full of dos and donts and boundaries. Don't tie yourself to a group that makes you behave against your own freedoms." I think he's telling him the Yakuza are like a company: you have to follow rules, do things you may not want to do, and follow orders you may hate. But there's no choice.

He wants Rogi to stay free to make choices according to his free and amoral spirit.

Akitora was like that--the wife already told us--he went where wanted, he might disapper at any moment. Free. His own code.

But as a Yakuza, he follows another code.

This may have nothing at all to do with sex, and everything about what you tie yourself, too, and that you may pay too high a price--ie, lose your own self to some degree.

And to add: Akitora is like Rogi in that neither LIKES to be told they CAN'T do something. And yet, in the Yakuza, you are told just that. You pledge loyalty and you are no longer your own man.

So, that's how I take it. He's telling Rogi to be free, cause he's not free. He's not free as a yakuza and he's not free as a married man.

Cause, honestly, if he wanted to bang Rogi, he could. We see yakuzas banging in Yaoi all the time. He could find a time/place/discretion and bang away. However, I think he's as bound to his wife (by love and vow) as he is to the yakuza (by duty).

If Akitora ever feels attraction toward Rogi then my theory is kinda correct: he's not hetero, he's at least bi (though we know being hetero/bi/gay in yaoi manga is really insignificant). I get what you say, and I agree, but to me there's still something that's underneath and not out in the open. And I get this not from Akitora's connection with Rogi, but more with his relationship with Asoda: there's is always a tension between them when they talk about Rogi that makes me think: 1- Asoda knows something about Akitora we still don't know (his past self before the marriage?) 2- Asoda's worry about Akitora getting too close to Rogi (he knows both of them since they were young, and he seems kinda reluctant to talk about Rogi past to Akitora). This 4 chapters are really not enough to get what the deal with this storyline, that's what makes me like the story so much. But I still think there's more about Akitora than just "he's bound to the yakuza and the love for his wife".

It's yaoi, so possible. But I think Asoda is afraid that Rogi is gonna set off the "I do what I want" desire in Akitora and make him do something that will imperil his position in the yakuza. Akitora admires the "do and say what the fuck I want" attitude of Rogi (and doesn't want him to be caged by a "corporate" thugness). And I think Akitora misses being free to do as he pleases.

Asoda sees the danger in letting Akitora's spontaneous-free guy loose. Rogi can set it loose.

I may be remembering wrong, but in the manga about the son, didn't Rogi admit to never having done Akitora? That's why he did it to the son?

I just went to check the part in Yondaime Ooyamato Tatsuyuki and there's a part in which Rogi says to Tatsuyuki "Akitora-san wasn't as honest about his feelings as you are". I didn't find a clear part in which Rogi says he never had Akitora in his bed but considering his obsession about getting his attention I guess they never had sex. But I also don't think that sentence is about Akitora having feelings toward Rogi and deny them. I don't know but the more I re-read Jealousy chapters the more it seems to me that Akitora feels more affection toward Asoda than Rogi. In chapter 3 when can clearly see Asoda embarassment in talking so much about Rogi which show how much Asoda is worrying about the fact that Rogi, being smart and cunning as he is, could take his place (the fact that he talks about how in school he could never beat him) by Akitora's side. And the reaction Akitora has toward this childish fear of Asoda is in my opinion the one of someone who thinks that that's something which is never going to happen. I know that maybe I'm blinded by my own vision of this ship but I do feel that Beriko is showing us way too much Asoda thoughts and reactions for this not to be real.

That's why I think there's still lots of things we don't know about.
