Part of the chapter near the end of volume actually isn't on this site. Basically Gerard got into a fight with his wife and she struck his face with a fireplace poker.
Gerard got his scar by fighting over his wife's lover's daughter with the father. It is mentioned somewhere. Basically, the noble father would treat the child that was born out of wedlock like a hindrance and Gerard could not bear the thought.

I liked it, but it kind of fell apart near the end. I mean, they get out of the trouble they're in in a flash and although the author points out how weird it is, I still didn't like it. Also, they never explained how Gerard got his scar! I really wanted to know -.- I feel like the author got annoyed and just gave it that ending.
