As long as both parties consent, there's no problem. In general, there's no problem because both parties are within the same the age group. If one person was 18 and another 16, it could be taken to court and the person who's 18 could be charged with statutory rape. It's very rare for two 16 year olds having sex to be charged with statutory rape, though technically you could be if there are stingy uptight people around and find out. Considering that it's California, two 16 yr olds having sex is totally fine. Also don't forget the fact that reproductive health is confidential and free which means most clinics offer birth control for free without adult knowledge. hope this helps

I'm not sure about California. But in my state where the age of consent is 16, if they have sex before then, technically parents could be charged. Like if a pregnant 15 yr old goes to doctor or hospital, they are suppose to call child services.
