So now I am going to post it again!!
But first of all isn't it interessting to see his mental deterioration? First of all of course he became mentally instable the moment he realizes he became a ghoul wouldn't you? I think that is the natural respones to it. Think about it; He always lived as a human and ghouls were this horrible monsters and than to find out you turned in one of them?! If you wouldn't go crazy over that I would be more worried about you :-). As I see it, his emotional journey takes three turns. First he becomes a ghoul, Kaneki becomes mentally and emotionally instable but he tries to hold onto his humanself, because this is the only thing that keeps him sane and he hopes he can destinguish himself from this monster he himself became. Second turn is the torture where he is pushed of the cliff he was wandering along. He throws his human side away and becomes truly a "ghoul". Rize is for him the symbol of a real ghoul and how he is suppost to be as a ghoul, 1. because she was the first ghoul he ever consciously met. 2. Because of that he thinks that that is the way he has to act to become a ghoul (ghoul= stronger).
The Third turn is when he decides to go back to antekiu, well he figured out that he can't be a human and can't hold onto that but also realizes that that what he did as a "real ghoul" does nothing but makes him and the people around him suffer. He can't protect anything and will be caught/ is caught in a vicious circle of hate/suffer/revenge. So he realises that he has to creat a new self for himself, so he can live in both ways. But than the thing that kept him going is under attack and he is going to lose everything again, the one thing and or Person that got him back to (Let's say a more saner state of mind) and that is when he totally loses it. The ghouls who try to live a upstanding life are going to be annhiliated and his safe haven will be gone!! About the contiuation we don't really know what happend to Hide so maybe he is dead but maybe he is still alive.
For the reason I like to read that manga it is first because of the emotional journey all the characters go through, I think they are quite realistic and comprehensible. And there is no real good or evil you understand why the different partys act the way they do!! Sorry for the long answer and my bad english ;)

    First of all Thanks.
I also think it is heartbreaking how much he loves his mother.
I kinda resent her for putting everybody before her own child.
It's not true that it's the best thing to see other people smile sometimes you have to say no and she should have put her son first, because her sister was an adult she should be able to deal with her own shit!!

    No prob. :)

I was mad at the mother too, but I really blame the aunt more! (I wonder what Kaneki would do if he ever sees his aunt again?)
