Hehehe- if you watched it before 2009, then you watched the old version of the anime - if you want to see the anime that sticks to the actual plot of this manga, the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is what you should see - they remade the series and it is pretty darn good. (the old version is quite different) (kissanime has it if you are interested)
Another manga that proves me wrong, i never really wanted to read this manga because i watched some part of it when i was young, i thought it has a really bad plot so i put it off my reading list until i have nothing to read. I guess i wasnt able to understand in when i was young but i honestly think now this is one of those great ones that will let you feel mixed emotions. I also love the way most characters introduced from the start can still be seen till the end e.g Yoki. This manga actually gave me countless of nightmares with really deep meaning and thats what scared me more, but i think its just due to how imaginative my mind is, so dont be scared to read it. I might say this to all manga or anime i read and finish but this is definitely one of the gems out of the thousands of manga there is. It was a fun journey reading this, i hope anyone who else read this have a fun time doing so. I honestly cant stop talking, but yeah have a good read
