When I first discovered this series (a decade ago, haha) I was really turned off by the art, to the extent that I didn't even want to try it. I'm so, so, so glad that I did. I eventually grew to love--yes, love, not tolerate--the art. Not only is it stunning, but it fits the story perfectly.
Yumi Tamura is a fantastic artist.
as someone who also draw, i really think the art is great and it creates an aura that fits the story, although it is indeed a bit messy at the beginning, but it gets better and i get to like it much. tbh i think most of those usual shoujo mangas are the ones that i think has no originality in drawings. and i wont even start with the story, this is really great. i was about to give up looking for good mangas since i read most of it already
