I think the reason why he thinks it would be weird is because, he, as Ren, is "not supposed" to know anything about her family circumstances.
no he was afraid that if she didnt see the show his "weird" behaviour would lead her to see it. you are right his passivnes is annoying but this time around i think his concerns were right.
The problem with ren is he's so concerned with how things look he won't even call kyouko because it'd be "weird"...UMMM She's hurt and you're concerned about weird?? Shou was an immature brat but at least he's upfront about his feelings, I like ren but I'm getting real tired of his passiveness
