This is actually quite common in real life. There are many gay men who refuse to come out of the closet even when they are secretly in relationships with other men. It's sad really. It takes a long time to come to terms with your sexuality when you grow up being taught that it is evil and sinful and disgusting to be gay. Senpai deals with it through denial - he insists that he is not really gay, just in love with one man who is an unusual exception. But in terms of his homophobia, he has actually come a long way and made some progress. Five years ago he would have started a fist fight at that wedding and beat the two men up. But he simply left and then he almost apologized to Morinaga for his behavior afterward saying, "maybe I should have just gotten drunk and endured." I have hope that Senpai will keep improving and eventually get over his homophobia completely.
