His parents are alive. He thinks about them during the Hong Kong arc. He talks about his dad traveling the world taking pictures and how he wants to be like him. He got his job with the weekly magazine through his father's contacts, so one assumes they are on good terms in spite of his past digressions.
Also in the New Years short, when Aki's friends see Asami's name come up first on his phone and mistakenly think it's a girl's name, Aki says no, it's just his mom. Kou says something like "That's not your mom's name." But that says that Aki does have his mom as one of his contacts on his phone (just not first!), implying he does call her. And we know that his friends know his mom well enough to know her first name.

Guys what do you think happened to Akihito's parents? Alive? Dead? What about his dad I've heard he had issues with his father because was a troublesome teen. Any thoughts on how he's mother would have been?
