Well, genius, why do you think he's pissed off that Akihito is all docile and ready to submit to his whims? What's the one thing about Akihito's personality that Asami loves? Think hard, don't strain yourself.

Ok, that was just rude. You don't have to say it like that... there is nothing wrong with asking and It's not that obvious... I'm not 100% sure why he's angry there too...

Not only are you rude, but you don't even have the correct answer. This has been addressed by other posts. The key to understanding this scene is reading what each character is saying and reading in between the lines.

Asami is angry because he doesn't understand why Akihito ran away for 3 days, on top of that Aki implies that the only way for him to keep Aki by his side is to take away his freedom. This would mean that he won't have Akihito's love nor is he welling to stay by Asami's side by his own choice, basically an unwilling captive partner.

If you go back to Vol 5 Chapter 30 of the Naked truth arc you see a little bit of Asami's thoughts and his desire to have Akihito stay and love him. Asami loves Akihito's willful and independent personality and seeing him run around. More importantly that Aki does so but always comes back to him by Akihito's own free will.

Asami enjoys and gets off on the knowledge that Akihito is receptive and finds pleasure when their having sex. By the way they interact since the Hong Kong arc, he presumes that Aki is slowly starting to love him and wants to stay by his side. This whole incident with the running away and Aki's line of Asami having to tying him up shakes Asami. It doesn't help that he thinks Aki found someone else to develop feelings to and is cheating on him.

This whole scene boils down to:
-bad or nonexistent communication between them concerning their relationship level.
-wrong or confused assumptions and expectation of each other's feelings on the kind of relationship they have. ( ̄∇ ̄")

I can give you the translation from the English volume and maybe it will help?

Starting from two pages back (and omitting Akihito's moaning SFX)--

Asami: "If there's somebody else besides me who can satisfy you, let's hear it... Akihito."

Akihito: "There's no one... there's no one else..."

Asami: "If you realize that... then what's confusing you...?"

Akihito: (You're the one one confusing me) "There's... nothing..."

Asami: "...if you can't handle it, then don't be bothered with it. Your freedom is in the palm of my hand. I won't allow you to stray out of my grasp."

Akihito: "If that's what you want... why don't you just tie a rope around me and lock me up?"

[Asami glares at Akihito and then drags him to his bedroom and throws him down on the bed.]

Akihito: (I made him angry, huh...?)

From this, my guess is that Asami thinks Akihito is saying that the ONLY WAY he would stay with Asami, is if Asami keeps him prisoner... which sounds kind of harsh and would explain why Asami was set off like that. Also, a comment Asami makes later: "The look on your face is saying you just came back after running away from home" indicates that Asami was fully aware that Akihito made attempt to leave him (Akihito denies this), so he would've found that one comment of Akihito's hurtful.

I think the communication problem is (youse guys... don't flame me for this) more Akihito's fault. True, Asami doesn't offer any insight about their relationship, but I think he would if Akihito would just ask. When Akihito asked Asami if he would throw him out if he caused trouble for Asami's business, Asami did answer... though it was obviously an uncomfortable question for him.

Also, twice now, Asami has straight out asked Akihito what was bothering/confusing him and the first time Akihito refused to answer... and this second time, he lied.

Sensei commented that they really needed to have a talk, so I think we'll see that fairly soon in the future.

Yes to this. Also this page in the next chapter speaks volumes:

    http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v07/c043/3/

This is right after the rough sex, Asami has gone to take a shower. He turns the shower off but he stays in the stall, arms braced against the wall, head hanging. He is still hurt and angry with himself for losing control. He carries that into the conversation with Kuroda, where he's clearly out of sorts. His mood doesn't really rebound until chapter 44, where he realizes Akihito is jealous of Sudou (and the smirk reappears.)

Well, I personally don't feel like Asami or Akihito are completely innocent in this...they're both responsible for the lack of communication. I do think Akihito should have tried talking to Asami a long time ago, but I somewhat understand that he doesn't. Aki's kind of emotionally unstable and uncertain when it comes to their relationship and Asami doesn't really do anything to reassure or stabilize him and instead chooses to tease him, which results in Akihito hiding his true feelings behind a shell. And Asami probably isn't necessarily the type of guy I'd want to talk about my feelings with... xD

And yes, Asami has asked, but that was it. He asked once and when he didn't get an answer he instantly proceeded to sexy time - I guess I would have inquired a bit more if I were him, not let up on it that easily (based on the assumption that Asami is seriously interested of course...or maybe Aki's ass just seemed more interesting at the point of time ^^). But then, Akihito probably just should have come out and said what bothered him. So I guess they're both at fault in their own ways.

But one way or the other, I've been waiting for them to have a conversation like forever...That comment of Yamane-sensei you quoted gives me hope, thanks for sharing it. :)

this has nothing to do with this chapter, but seeing the animix that just came out, we can now see what Akihito is saying here... I believe I talked to you about how the translation was wrong... or maybe not... I dont remember sorry if its not you

I think for Asami's POV, Aki's been running hot and cold and being moody without explanation, and then Aki makes a crack about being a prisoner after having run away without explanation. Asami goes all the way to Hong Kong to personally rescue Aki, vowing that he will bring Aki closer to him at home. Then, Aki takes his time coming to live with Asami, claiming it's only temporary and that he is a "maid" or some nonsense. Sometimes Aki is hot and demanding sex, and others he is cold and claiming he doesn't want any of it.

That week, Aki came home late smelling of wine and talking about how Asami hasn't been home enough. The next night, Aki does this weird staring thing and tries to lock himself in his room, and won't tell Asami why. After that, Asami plies Aki with sushi and Aki is all over Asami--Aki even says he doesn't run away from his target. Then Aki runs away for 3 days without a word. Aki is finally brought home in disgrace and Aki won't meet Asami's eyes. Asami makes Aki admit some feelings, but then Aki throws out the "hold me prisoner" crap--and Asami's about had it with that. From Asami's shoes, it must seem like Aki is playing with him. Can you image Asami accepting that from anyone else?

Most people in Asami's world want Asami (or want something from him). People are always playing up to him, trying to get next to him, or get something from him. Asami tends to express his affection with actions. In some ways he is as reluctant to admit his feelings as Aki is. For all his faults, Asami thinks he is being very patient with Aki, and Aki doesn't see that.

I also agree Asami seemed relieved and happy when he figured out that Aki was jealous. I think Asami is also concerned about Aki's desire to be independent and useful. Asami is actually trying to be supportive, in Asami's high-handed, alpha male way.

I thought the "You don't have that kind of value" was sarcasm, because Aki wasn't admitting they were lovers.

Yeah, that was me. That translation is exactly the same as it is in the Finder volume. In fact, it looks like the entire animix translation has been taken pretty much word-for-word from the English volumes (Finder 3 & 4).

I followed this animix/manga discussion with interest and just wanted to point something out to you guys: These Englis subs were done by Aarinfantasy. So it's a fansubbed version by Aarin and her team. They had the Viewfinder volumes as references to do the subbing, to make them both as close to each other as humanly possible and not for the Englis fansub to deviate to much from the respective volume original. And as usual, Aarin and her guys have done a great job with this.

It's just worth mentioning that this is still a fansub, not a... shall we say, "official" English sub by the production company, sensei authorised or anything. So like a scanlation, these guys just did the subbing to the best of their abilities.

Then again, considering the last official volume release had the translator turn "pray in the abyss" into "play in the abyss", a fansub is probably not the worst option we could end up with. :D :D :D

Just thought I'd better point that out. Back to your regular programme (aka discussion). :)

You mean in terms of "I love you"s, Candy? Mmh, I wouldn't hold my breath there and I doubt we will ever get that... I just don't think it's that kind of story, to be honest. They show their affection and feelings in many ways and have many ways to express them verbally (like Akihito saying in that chapter before the penthouse attack how he would have Asami's back and protect something (Asami) that he was absolutely not going to give up aka that was very important to him). It's all a bit... "verbally entwinded", lol. In my language we call this "saying it through a flower", meaning: Not saying it directly, but in a roundabout way. So I honestly don't expect any ILU from either of them any time soon or ever, actually. But maybe that's just me and sense will give me the shock of my life one day. ;) Right now I can't see either of them saying it without being OOC. Again, probably just me. ;)
