The way I understand it Daddy-Long-Legs is a benefactor, sb mysterious who pays for a child's educational and other expenses. More or less.
The name comes from a novel (the benefactor is called like that, bc the girl only remembered he's tall and has long legs). I read it a long time ago, so I don't really remember much. If you're interested:

The term daddy long legs originated from a book about a girl and her benefactor. She had never met him and had seen his shadow only once and he had long legs from what she could tell so she nicknamed him such.

Weird. I've never seen "daddy long legs" used like that. I think maybe it's a translation error and they mean "sugar daddy".

Otherwise, "daddy long legs" is a term to describe a man with long legs, or a sexual position (I'll let you use your imagination here ;)

I think it means that he's the person who helps you secretly or the person who's always there to help you. I guess it was taken from the novel, Daddy Long Legs where the said Daddy Long Legs secretly helps Judy Abbott.
