and i don't understand why soul society would send byakuya and renji (like such high-ranking shinigami) to bring back rukia to soul society

Oh, I dont know. Maybe because Byakuya is her brother and Renji is her chilhood friend (so to speak)?

Maybe because Byakuya is her brother. Maybe the only reason Renji was there was because he is Byakuya's lieutenant? IDK
