If you're a writer and you write plots like that then you're a shitty writer, you don't just "kill" a character for a shocking experience. Maybe a reason (a really extra strong reason) why they would lose this match will make it even more interesting and would make us readers to continue on reading because they had lose and ready to fight again. I'm also not the mangaka, just sayin.

Maybe this is why Furudate sensei let them fight against Inarizaki because they need a strong reason to really deserve to go on Nationals. What manga is the one where the uke is from an island and a son of a fisherman but has really sensitive skin so he can’t stay out in the sun. He meets the seme and they stay in this little shack to hang out. They form a bond but they both have abusive fathers.
