Guys quick question. Before I ask, I don’t ship both and I’m not attacking both fandom but I’m just genuinely curious. Genshin players HATE kaeluc because they are “adopted” brothers (tho in the original they’re just sworn brothers but that’s not the point) their argument is that they both grew up and lived together so it has to be illegal. But why aren’t they attacking eren x mikasa in the same manner? They also grew up and lived together. Heck even eren’s mom see mikasa as her daughter. I don’t see the point of their argument when half of the haters ship erenxmikasa. Do y’all think it’s fair? I honestly think it isn’t and instead of putting down others cuz of their ships isn’t right. Why can’t they just respect both sides?
I think it's pretty much cuz erenxmikasa never called eachother siblings but I'm also not in the aot fandom so I don't know much about it. Now to the whole Kaeluc thing. If it would have been a mistranslation that kaeya and diluc are adopted brothers, then why is it still in the game? I don't think mihoyo would just not care, right? Mihoyo fixes mistranslation quite frequently. Also even Kaeya calls Crepus "father" in Ventis story quest. Even if Kaeya and Diluc weren't adopted brothers them in a relationship would be pretty toxic cuz they don't get along quite well. Diluc tried to kill Kaeya after all. Back to the mikasa x even argument, I don't think that mikasa ever called any of erens parents father or mother, (correct me if I'm wrong again I'm not part of the act fandom and I've only watched a few episodes) but Kaeya in fact did. I honestly just don't really understand why people would ship them since it gives so many hints, voice lines, story lines etc. that show that they are adopted brothers. Yes it's all fictional, but stuff like that can be very invalidating to sum adopted siblings and makes it seem as if they are not counted as real sibling just cuz they are not related by blood.
The reason why the translation is adopted is because English doesn’t have a word to describe sworn brothers that has the same meaning in English. I’m pretty sure for English speakers, sword brothers are just lifetime bestfriends. Sworn brothers in Chinese culture is a close relationship (doesn’t have to be necessary friends or bestfriends but just close in general) but aren’t kinship. Chinese culture also call anyone older than them older sister or older brother (or aunt and uncle depending on ur age) as a sign of respect so I guess to make it less difficult for English translator and make it easier to understand for English speakers, they sticked to adopted brothers instead. I agree with the part that it would be toxic cuz of the whole fight scene but most haters doesn’t even look at that fact and go straight to the fact that they’re illegal. Back in aot, I could be wrong in this cuz it’s been so long but I remember eren called or referred to mikasa as his sister (tho in the end eren actually liked mikasa back) but the reason I’m comparing both is because of their reasoning for hating kaeluc. Literally 98% of the comments I see on TIKTOK are “they’re illegal”, “they’re brothers”, etc. I’ve seen them sending death threats to people who ships kaeluc too.
Technically Kaeluc is not illegal but its morally just wrong since they see eachother as brothers. To the sworn brothers thing, I think they would be able to translate it since there are also English voice lines of xinqiu(?) wanting to become sworn brothers with the traveler (that's what I've heard idk if it's 100% correct tho) so why wouldn't it work for kaeya and diluc? Also idk but it's a bit weird for them to be sworn brothers if their characters are German/South Asian (we don't know what kaeya exactly is so I'm just gonna say he's south asian) but after all its a Chinese game so it might be right. Thank you for correcting me on the eren x mikasa thing I didn't know but I also don't ship and have no idea what's going on between them. Tiktok is a scary place and contains often a lot of misinformation, but if they see them as brother ofc they are gonna say things like "they are illegal" etc. I agree with you that the death threats are a bit too far since u could just nicely tell someone why kaeluc is "illegal" or just morally incorrect. But also about the sworn brothers thing, if they couldn't translate the sworn brothers thing correctly, why didn't they just say something like best friends? Cuz I'm pretty sure sworn brother and adopted brothers are not alike at all. My point still stands that if all of that would have been a mistranslation, then why did it happen so often? Also excuse my grammar, English is not my first language.
It wouldn’t work because like u said, they already have a bizarre relationship. And about xingqui, For him it would work because he is in a clan. In china, everyone in the clan are your sworn sibling/father/u name it. I agree with the whole country concept thing but they refer with eachother as 義兄 (shi xiong) and 义弟 (shi di) which means sworn older brother/younger brother. Also I did some more research and creplus (sorry Idk how to spell his name) but he doesn’t refer to kaeya as son or kaeya as his father but sworn father and son. For ur question about bestfriends, it would be hard to say that with their background of growing up together and like I said before, sworn siblings are not like bestfriends. They could be closer than that or farther than that. And it’s not a mistranslation that was caused because of a mistake but it was made in purpose for English speakers to understand it easier and for the translators to explain it easier. I know it’s wack cuz it literally have different meanings and I understand the confusion because I was confused too when I read the Chinese and everyone was saying they are adopted so the confusion works both ways.
Then Mihoyo really did a major mistake with the translation, since in the English version kaeya refers to crepus as father and in his story it's written that he is dilucs adopted brother but in the Chinese version its completely different? Why didn't they just make both versions the same. Of course it's gonna cause a lot of misunderstandings etc. when both versions are completely different from eachother. I just wish that Mihoyo would try to translate everything correctly but at the end of the day being a translator isn't easy and we shouldn't blame them for that. With the Kaeluc situation it really doesn't give a wrong or right since both is basically cannon in a way. It just stirs a lot of confusion. One thing that's annoying is also Kaeluc shippers telling people that u have to be blood-related with ur sibling for it to be considered incest. It happens so often that Kaeluc shippers invalidate adopted siblings/ siblings that are not bloodrelated. That has also driven a lot of hate for the Kaeluc shippers and the ship itself. So it's not just only the ship that gets hated on but also mostly the shippers cuz most of them act a certain way that can invalidate a lot of people. I also dislike Kaeluc a lot cuz a lot of its content is just merely very sexual content which I really dislike. Same goes for Zhongchi. In the end its really just a lot of confusion and very weird. But both the shippers and the haters should really calm down and not invalidate eachother/ tell the other one to kill themselves.
I completely agree. Though I’m not the type to judge others for their ships because it will be hypocritical for me to say I feel the same when I read something like that every now and then (love or hate, etc) I completely agree with the translation thing. Tbh I have no issue with the ships and like you said, the shippers are the problem. Both sides take things too seriously to the point of threatening the ones they don’t agree with. I just think that they should just people ship whatever ship they want aslong as they aren’t hurting anybody. About the invalidating step siblings, tbh what I think for that all comes down to the characters. Even though they’re fictional, I honestly think that it comes down to them and how will the mihoyo characters will make them. If they make them loving siblings then I’ll also consider it incest. But if they never thought of eachother in such way then I wouldn’t because, to me, that’s invalidating their feeling.
