Taichi has a sentimental attachment to a beautiful spot by the river, which he is about to lose forever as a dam is slated for construction over it. There, he meets Zama, the man who will change his life.

Boy (Taichi) is adopted by an older man (Kanda) for sentimental reasons, develops his own sentimental attachment to the river bank where he was adopted, then meets a stranger (Zama) at the same riverbank who tells him the place will be the construction site for new housing. It's a story that's nominally about family and loneliness and, to crib from Evelyn Waugh, that moment you are looking for love and open that low door in the wall that others have found before you, that moment you realize other people in lives are just forerunners for the person you will end up falling in love with.

But actually the story just is sort of disappointingly disjointed. Zama and Kanda's similarity never really goes anywhere. You never get a sense of who any of the characters are, especially not Kanda. Zama develops complexity in the last chapter only because of the plot, so who he was before the story and meeting Taichi, who knows? and Taichi develops a backbone of mysterious origin, so one can only Hand of God say that he learns and grows from his experiences.

The art is fine, lovely and wispy, and it's not like anyone really does anything too stupid or unreasonable. It's just a story that has preemptively labeled itself as poignant, but doesn't really do anything but gesture in the direction of meaning.

The first time they had sex felt way too rapey for me. He is an underage kid who was just drinking alcohol for god's sake. The rest was pretty boring and hard to follow. I usually love this mangaka's work, so I was sad.

Was the writer drunk when he wrote this? Very confusing.

Seems to me like someone from Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan. (mix of Harada and Hijikata maybe?)

I think that Taichi was alone as a child and the mayor was also lonely when he lost his wife so he took Taichi in. Taichi feels grateful to him and loves him in a fatherly way nothing more. I think Taichi has some Daddy issues but not to be romantically involved with the mayor. Taichi says he thought he could be that person's "wife" meaning that he would take the role of the late Mrs mayor so that they would stay together and not be lonely anymore and live happily. Taichi saw Zama as another father-like person since he was older and the way he acted torwards him and they met at the same special place he met his adoptive father. Zama was a trip. He's the typical seme who doesn't know what he wants and disappears without a thought. Taichi finally saw that he had a different love for Zama (ero) to the one he had for the mayor (agape) and so he was able to leave that place he felt trapped and went to live his life not being bound by that countryside and obligation to be with the mayor.
    Just my 2 cents (^_^)

I'm a little confused; in ch5 Taichi tells Zama that before, he thought he wanted to become that person's "wife." That "person" being his "dad," right? Then he tells him that he thought for three years what he wanted for himself, and decided to go to Zama. Then he says he's surpriced his feelings hand't changed and Zama smacks him on the head and says he's "impertinet." I'm not sure what the heck does that mean? Is Taichi surprised he still wanted to be his "dad's" wife, or that for three years his feeling for Zama didn't change?

Because it seems like he was confused from the begining. When he did it with Zama for the first time he called out "dad," and didn't really seemed to be in love with Zama, at any stage. It seems like he just decided to go for Zama, since his relationship with his "dad" will always remain father and son and nothing else. So, he is surpriced that he is still in love with his "dad," or not? That's what confuses me.

The story is a little confusing. And if somebody (in chapter one) had just bothered to tell the boy, that the park was only getting a makeover and wouldn't be destroyed. The story could easily have been done in two chapters instead of five.

I found this manga a bit strange and hard to follow even despite it's short length. Two of the chapters were uploaded incorrectly, and not only that, the story line itself seemed disjointed and didn't really make much sense. I finished reading and found myself thinking "what exactly was the point of this?" nobody had clear motivation or desires. And what was with the uke's obsession with his "dad"? I feel like the mangaka was hinting at a one sided crush of some sort but never really elaborated on it (or anything, really)

this mangaka always has characters that are quiet, introverted, unsure of themselves & usually don't value themselves...then they find love & happiness, usually with their complete opposite. i LOVE that! he obviously confused his gratitude & affection for dad as passionate love, but figures things out. if it's superficial smut you're lookin for, then keep movin. this author explores loneliness & has quite a bit of depth in her writing

It's kind of apathetic, but so is the character. We need more on his past though, and possibly more dialogue that is actually interesting. Like, reveal Taichi's weakness about he always says sorry (since he was an abandoned kid and picked up, maybe he thinks that if he doesn't act perfectly, he will get thrown out?)
