Ahh! I rarely extol a work as much as I do this. I loved it! The writing, the art. It's simplistic, admittedly - there's not really deep drama or complexity or really any conflict that allows/prevents the romance. Instead it's touching and beautiful, which I find refreshing and absolutely enthralling.

Hoshino was dazzled by his senpai, Akihino, when they formed the astronomy club together in high school, especially with his dreams of becoming a pilot. What he didn't know is that those dreams had only become an opportunity for Akihino because he was dazzled. After an eleven year separation, Hoshino is astonished to be reunited with Akihino, who has not been able to fulfill his dreams. Indeed, it seems that he is the single parent of Hoshino's biggest problem student and there is a sad mystery behind this, but Akihino does not want Hoshino to come any closer. A bittersweet story about adulthood and sacrifices, which becomes much sweeter when barriers are slowly worked through, although it's sometimes frustrating to watch.

At times I felt it was drawn out but when children are involved it can't be helped. Cute story, I liked sensei and the kid, but felt disconnected from the dad.

Just my opinion.I was shipping sensei with ex-senpai's kid, but it became sensei x senpai and senpai's kid x bully.Love this author, but didn't like that senpai.

this manga is both sweet and a little sad. I love how the characters in story don't just fall in love and get together, but go through the obstacle of trying to accept that the one they love is of the same sex.

I like this story a lot. It was not lovey-dovey or focused on sex but on the mere feelings. The author did a great job in explaining, exploring their feelings for each other. I could totally feel how much Akihiro was/is in love with Hoshino and the other way around. It was brave of Hoshino to confess to Akihiro although he knew that Mami was special to Akihiro. I wish Mami would be still alive since I also liked her a lot.
When Akihiro told Hoshino that he considered to ask Mami if she wants to marry him I had to gulp... But that was also one of the things why this story pleased me. It is pretty normal to fall in love with someone else after school or so especially if 11 years passed. Nobody could expect of neither Akihiro nor Hoshino to hold on these feelings fo each other. That's why I was asking myself whether those two will finally come together.
Others might find Akihiro's pushing away annoying and cold-hearted but I could understand him. At the same time I could also understand Hoshino. Chapter 9 was heartbreaking. I'm currently reading it again. It was the chapter where their hidden feelings broke out. In the end it was Hoshino who insinuated Akihiro that it was okay to give frree rein to their feelings. I absolutely loved this moment! The extra-chapter was the lovey-dovey feeling that was not there in the main story. I quite liked it especially the proposal of Hoshino xD Here it was even more evident that Hoshino's feelings are actually reciprocated.
The paneling was also amazing! Everything was white with black, big panels and not much background. The pages felt kind of empty like the feelings of those two and how the story was told. It perfectly suits the storytelling.

Oh, and Shouta is such an adorable kid! It hurt to see how Shouta's and Akihiro's relationship was shown at the beginning but then it was even more beautiful how it came to it. I'm sure Shouta loves Akihiro like a son would love a father. It's only now that his father is dating his first love xD
I felt srry for the kid when Hoshino rejected Shouta. (Still, I liked the honesty of Hoshino and the blushing of Akihiro.) Sadly, Shouta is still in love with Sensei. I'm curious on how he will let go of these longtime feelings and come to love love Daiki. The latter doesn't have it easy, I guess :D

Seems some of you does not realize there's a sequel. It's called Yoake Ni Furu and tells the story of Shouta as a high school student. 'Cuteness overload' is what I would describe it as XD

  18. 10/10. You better recognize August 12, 2014 5:21 am

Seriously complaining about no sex? come on people. I think the manga is only shounen-ai and mislabeled as yaoi. Nojiko is my favorite mangaka because her stories perfectly reflect the mood and pacing of real life love. It's confusing and the characters thoughts and feelings don't seem reasonable, but all of us are guilty of the same things, and not being honest with ourselves. Nojiko's art is amazing and her use of panels creates an atmosphere unique to her novels and her writing is reflective of real life and therefore paced as so, quite refreshing and much more relatable than MANY other BL i have read.AND about the story being too complicated, Its weird having someone you loved that much come out of nowhere, your gonna be kind of a mess and make really terrible attempts to save face. With the mildly cruel way Akihiro messed/flirted with Hoshino, because deep down he knew everything and felt the same and probably felt relived that while hoshino changed so much over time his never did, and how Hoshino feel back in love with Akihiro or more so realized he never stopped loving all the while concerning himself with not wanting to push away or ruin his relations with Akihiro are all REAL feelings some of which i have experienced and actually felt. All those things make this slice of life one to be reckoned with. Simply pure and beautiful 10/10 the end. We all have something to learn from Hayakawa-sensei <3

I totally agree. There's not a pressing need for sex to codify the relationship. Honestly I understand the release of tension that is easily created through physical relations with the character, but I find the absence to be just as informative.

i'll give this mmmm.....4stars... the story is cute and all but it is rushed(for me) i don't know why but it feels like they skipped a whole chapter of this manga but all in all it's good.. i also love the feeling where it gives of the vibe of slice of life but not (did i explain it right???)

  20. Dee Dee April 17, 2014 6:24 pm

For some reason, I didn't really like it. Like, I don't get why it had to be so complicated. Seriously. I felt that Akihiro was quite unfair, and I hate it when one partner has more of an advantage over the other. I certainly felt Hoshino loved Akihiro more than Akihiro loved Hosjino, especially given the fact that Hoshino confessed his love for him (on top of the fact that Akihiro already knew Hoshino loved him) and yet Akihiro, till the very end, didn't say he loved Hoshino back. I get the whole anxiety of being a teenager fighting with raging hormones and feelings for a guy, but what about as adults? why did he still treat him that way? From their reunion up until Hoshino confessed, he was being a little of a jerk (at least to me); and even then, even after Hoshino confessed, he was still trying to push Hoshino away demanding Hoshino "forget" about him, so that he can also forget about Hoshino and his confession of love. I didn't like that, it seriously didn't need to be so complicated.

P.S: for those who keep talking about Shouta x Hoshino, it's not that serious. When I read the comments before I began reading the manga, I thought that Shouta was some grown-up stud who would be serious competition for Akihiro... BUT, it turns out that it's only an elementary kid in throes of his first love, which might actually be more the fact that he might see Hoshino as a mother figure and less as a "lover" lol ... Sooo, yeah it wasn't that serious, but Shouta WAS adorable!

All in all, I'll give this a 2.5/5 * rating, and only because I love this mangaka, the art and he(r) writing technique.

    • Yzma April 29, 2014 8:11 pm

      my thoughts exactly:)
art style is awesome, but then there's this kind of twisted logic. they get it a lot in yaoi manga, with all that rape justification and victims blaming themselves. not exactly the same case here, but still leaves you disappointed.
