Questioning Age Ratings

I sort of agree with Loli. Not only can kids get addicted to porn (my sister did), they can easily be swayed into thinking that sex is Bad(tm) and that they are Bad for thinking that it's interesting or that they like to see it/read it. This can lead to deeper mental health issues later. Maybe it's the parents' fault for not being more open about ......   reply

Depends from the person, jep. But i would disagree that exposure to this fiction filled world is a good option. I know that most young ppl would complain about me saying that any experience affects them more than it seems - in this case completely unrealistic depiction of sex and romance but im still gonna say that it leaves traces in mind and not ......   reply

It all depends on the person no matter what age. You should not mix reality with fantasy I was 11-12 when I first started reading yaoi though I know it's a work of fiction , nothing really change except the fact that I fangirl alot lmao. Till now I still love to read yaoi not just because of smut But for the plot as well. I was a very open minde......   2 reply

The first time I read yaoi was when I was 11 or 12 years old. At first I didn't mind it because it was only shonen-ai, but I realized that there was another genre that was a little more explicit. At first I was like, "Whoa! I can't read this. It is way too inappropriate for me to read." But I kind of wanted to know what happened next and I also wan......   reply

Well... im my country the legal age for sex is 16 so it would be pretty weird if people are not allowed to read aboult sex when they are old enough to do it themselves. Besides that, kids are often sexually mature at ages even younger than that. They feel sexual attraction just as we do and are curious about their bodies. The legal age is not for h......   2 reply

I think the 18+ thing is more like a warning than an interdiction. It helps you know what will be in the thing you're starting to watch/read/play, but in the end it depends on your mentality. I started reading hentai stuff when I was 14, but I didn't start Berserk before I was 15 because I didn't feel "ready". So in the end I think it's a pretty go......   1 reply

I don't cause some of those Ukes are in middle school and first or second year of high school, and I don't think age matter what really matters is if your mature enough to handle hardcore mangas   reply

Well, I started reading at like 13, so I would be a hypocrite to say not to. To be fair, with the internet bringing anything you want to see with a click/tap, it's hard to tell anyone not to see/do ANYTHING. Most kids kinda know sex stuff nowadays. It really can't be avoided in the grand scheme of things. Now with that being said, myself and numero......   reply

Considering that I got into yaoi at ten, I suppose that it can't be helped that I question the age limit, but I've gotten told that I'm mature for my age often so I don't know if that is the right choice. Honestly though, if someone thinks they can handle it, why stop them. If they can or cannot handle it they'll know after they read it.   1 reply

I think it matters more on education than age. I don't know about the other countries here, but in mine you learn about sex education at grade 7 (age 12) but recently some schools, are now starting to teach it at grade 1... In this education system, it really starts at grade 5/6 but the information is really minimal. From grade 8 it's "condoms, ......   reply

I don't think age restrictions are particularly useful, but they are there for a reason. When talking about mature topics, it is important to take into account the maturity of the individual, which is hard to assess. Children may also hear things from their classmates if not from their parents, older siblings, etc. However... When I see 8 yr-olds c......   2 reply

I've been reading smutty BL manga and fan fiction since I was like 14 so I'd be a hypocrite if I agreed with the 18+ thing haha. I think its fine if underage people look at it since most BL is censored anyway. Plus its better than looking at some gross porn full of girls that make you feel bad about yourself lol. I think that people under 18 shoul......   reply

I really think that this varies from person to person. I remember reading my first explicit manga at around age 9 or 10. It was more of a shoujo than a hentai but there was still some pretty steamy stuff. By that age, I already had a general idea of what sex was because I found my older cousin's stash of porn (but that's a totally different story h......   reply

Personally I think we should definitely be a little more open about sexuality. We should definitely talk to kids around the time they reach age 12 and are starting to enter puberty about sexuality, safe sex, consent, all that stuff. We should also let kids know around that age what pornography is, and how it's not realistic and you shouldn't see th......   reply

90% of the yaoi mangas depict unhealthy relationships and wrong practices. also its so wrong for someone to learn about lgbt+ people from these mangas because 99% of the time theyre extremely transphobic, biphobic and believe it or not homophobic. it makes people fetishize and objectify gay people soo much. i know it because 3 of my close friends do......   3 reply

I am a mother to 3 (ages 6,8,11). I am obsessed with yaoi and my kids know i enjoy reading manga where boys kiss boys. But as a mother, i don't think i would allow my oldest to view such material. Although i don't think i will hold him off on these until 18, but 11 is too young. I don't understand kids now who are like 12 watching hentai, yaoi and ......   2 reply

My parents never taught me about anything sexual on their own account. They were forced to give me a one sentence definition of the basic topic because of Glee (that's also how I found out about the LGBT community). After that, they left me to figure things out for myself. I learned a lot of stuff through books and the Internet. I realize that man......   1 reply

Well, there are surprisingly a lot of people that started reading yaoi and other adult stuff when they were around 12 years old. So I think it's fine for those under 18 to read sexuall materials. As long as you know right from wrong and real from unreal, and keep it separate from your real life.   2 reply
