Death would've been too easy for her. Now she has to live in the nightmare she always dreads, i.e. poverty.
I image she'll see the news about her sister someday and boil with agony and rage until she goes absolutely insane. Later, as now she has no one to feed her or take care of her, she has to do all that herself and of course, hard labour turns her hideous
This is all in my imagination though. As Alisha's closer wasn't given, this one seemed like the most possible thing that could happen to her.
