can someone explain this hiatus thing, i see it a lot.

basically yes, but it depends on the manhwa. some do a scheduled/regular hiatus after a set number of episodes. for dash, for example, its 5 chapters then a break. since dashs new chapters always drop on 9/19/29 (korean chapters) and 1/11/21 (official english translations) you basically have to wait about 20 days after every 5 chapters have been released and so on.
