I use this website to mostly keep track yaoi manga because I find it is the most updated one. I use other sites like My Anime List as well for other manga, though don't keep it updated.
My first manga was Fake when I was in high school that I borrowed from a friend. As I did not get into it when I was younger because nothing was available in North America at the time. However, I did get into yaoi fanfiction at around 12 or 13 with Gundam Wing.
I put almost everything on my PTR list just to keep up with updates of series. But I will not be reading it all. I enjoy series with an actual plot, though with BL series it is often hard to find lol. I usually don't rate a series lower than 3 stars because if it is something I don't like, I do not complete it or keep it on my list. There are exceptions though, like Killing Stallking which for me was too fucked up to give it a good score.
Lower rated BL series are usually ones that don't really have a plot (or the plot just being sex) are just boring, or plain messed up. Also, if an ongoing series is ongoing for more than a couple of years I put it as completed since I doubt it will be continued.
My favorite type of uke is one with a backbone and my favorite seme is a possessive one. However, I dislike doormat ukes who are really whiny and semes who are super abusive and are all around dicks...though there are always exceptions...with good character development ;)
I also wish more Yaoi had shorter or more feminine semes and stronger looking ukes or just get rid of the seme and uke dynamics all together (more reversible couples ftw!). Just because I feel like it is a nice change of pace, as I enjoy different kinds of ideas and plots. There is just not enough of it in the BL genre.
