This is true, but the treads and 'cannon' on this "Panzer" are all WWII equipment. The first armoured vehicle was more like a car on wheels with a guy standing in the top with a machine-type gun. (built around 1902-4) And you are correct about the the approximate year they used the word Panzer, but I thought it was a little later (1938-40-ish but that could be a faulty memory - I should look it up in my history books to be sure)
well this manga is dated aprox on the end of XIX century....... 20 years +-........if we think that they kept the tank on secret in the woods of a remote village in the middle of germany........it somekind fits....look at moustard gas....it was known in 1800 but wasnt used till 1917 as a weapon....
I strongly recommend you these 2 books to learn on tanks:
- "Encyclopedia of german tanks of World War Two”, Peter Chamberlain and Hilary Doyle. Arms & Armour, 1999.
-"Tanks of World War I and II" George Forty, Southwater,2006.
glad to hear from an History-otaku as well ;)
Actually the tank is older than WWII. They came in handy during WWI. I don't know the official date they came into production, but it wasn't WWII.
Sorry to burst your bubble but In Germany: The first Panzer tank was built in 1936/8 (two years before the star of WWII), the first armoured vehicle was built in 1902/4 and was little more than a car with high sides and a man with a machine gun sitting in the top section. The first armoured vehicle with big guns and treads (called a Light Tractor or Leichtraktor) was buitl in 1930. For a general description see wikipedia (not the best site for this but does have a fairly good brief summary without all the technical details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_combat_vehicles_of_World_War_II ) The first tanks were not actually built until after WWI ended in 1918. There are dozens of site with similar information though.
well I majored in Contemporary History, but I had to study a full 6 years of Latin so I know your pain xDD (I wasn´t decided between Medieval History and Contemporary History so I chose a bit of both, (yeah I´m a bit masoquist, I know) till I decided. Now I´m doing a Master on " The values and changes of the figures of power through XIX-XX- and its impact on society" ............interesting but heavy xDDDD
More stuff being dragged from the future into the past, another WWII invention shows up 50 years too early. Oh well, we must suspend disbelief here despite the other historical evidence.
