The thought that he might be a girl never crossed my mind...
Yes, well Ciels's name is French in origin...Sebastian's is Greek in origin and my real name is is Hebrew in origin but I am Danish ... names are borrowed from all areas, they don't need to be exclusive to a region (depending on the antiquity of the name) People choose names because they like the way they sound or what meaning the have) [Sascha is actually a diminutive of Aleksander] LOL Just some mindless trivia for you
well, Sascha is considered a unisex name and it's often used both for girl and boys...anyway, I bet sascha is a girl XD
If you notice, however, all of the female characters in this manga have long hair, I don't recall one with short hair (except maybe Doll - tomboy) and Sascha's hair is not any longer than Sebastians. Plus, Sascha does not appear to have a very feminine figure - I am not saying that Sascha is definitively male, but most of sensei's female characters have more distinct feminine characteristics/method of dressing, and I do not recall seeing any female Shinigami (that and Sascha is wearing a masculine suit at a time setting where females did not usually wear pants) so the weight of evidence says that Sascha is male. (but this could just be a ruse, as it is not historically accurate anyway)
all true...as you said, until now there wasn't any female shinigami...so, given that sascha is a little ambiguous and the name fit both the possibilities, i was hoping in a female shinigami...that's why i bet on girl
I mean, Sascha's a german name very much, I'm not quite sure why you referred to Russia xD. Though I'm not that sure of how much it's mostly used for guys or girls.
In Germany, there's laws that doesn't allow unisex names to be given, unless they add a second name that is gender-specific. Like Sascha Maria for girls, or Sascha Markus for guys.
Sascha actually predates Germany, so the origins for the name are not German, see link here: http://www.behindthename.com/name/sasha In fact, if you wanted to give Alexander the Great a nickname - it could have been Sascha as it is a shortened form of Aleksander so it is more likely Greek in origin - but this site and a number of others state that Sascha is first and foremost Russian. For the record, I think Sascha is male in this manga, but that is just my take on it.
Well, languages and cultures just appropriate themselves names. The translator even gave it its specific German spelling (for what it's worth, if it was normally romanized it would've been "Sasha").
Sacha's also a unisex French name, damn popular these days at that, and it's Ash's name the French dub of Pokemon :V
Sasha in the US and England is totally a girl's name.
I'm just saying, I think it could be either and I just don't really care x)
Hmmm...I don't have a preference either, but I have a male friend who goes by Sascha and he is from the Czech Republic ... but they do spell the name with the 'c' in it here ( http://www.mangago.me/read-manga/kuroshitsuji/an/v18/c102/pg-28/ )
Sascha is a Russia name
I come from German and Sascha means in German Alexander or Alexandra
sorry for my bad english >.<
