I loved this story. I know a lot of women who have gone through evil shit like this and I’ve managed to know many who have managed to fall in love and start new again. This was that kind of story . A story about how powerful women are , when faced with everything from rape to loss, and unrequited love . And the ability to keep going , keep trying to be strong even in the midst of devastation and sadness . I give mad props to Daisuke . He calls himself childish , but I think he behaved like a real man . Everyone had baggage and some people just have it worse than others , and he was a great character to not give a shit and instead be considerate and caring . Sad Story but very moving !

I read this manga a long time ago, and I came to read it again today... It shocks me reading the comments of how many people didn't understood the ending, I understood it and I read this when I was in high school :O

The ending doesn't mean that they will not stay together forever:

1. The annoying ex-girlfriend says they will definitely break up but that's because she's bitter, this doesn't mean anything, Daisuke's mom is a good person, she will not make them break up because Aikawa has a horrible past I believe it more plausible that she will show love to her and concern instead of rejection.

2. The childhood friend never says that they will break up in the future, but what she does says is that it will be though, the future will not be easy, and that's true.

3. Daisuke says Aikawa may find in the future someone better than him, more mature, etc... But that's just means that he loves her so much that he would be willing to let her go if someone better comes (and if she wants to go with that person), he just loves her that much (and doesn't want to hurt her even more than she already is), for all we know he may come to be that person one day, the man that Aikawa needs, someone gentle and mature, he may become that person because of her.

4. Aikawa says that Daisuke may find someone more suitable for him, someone who fills his eyes more, someone more cheerful, but that's her lack of self-love (self esteem), he loves her and just her, maybe this can change but we do not know about it, and knowing him he will not change, Aikawa just needs to start loving herself more, it will be hard, but with time, patience, understanding, and a lot of love, she will start healing, and I think Daisuke and his mom are a good medicine for her.

Everyone may understand the ending in anyway they want to, because they may or may not be together forever, but the manga is not telling you that they will actually break up, the manga is just telling you that the future will be though, but they love each other enough to go through it together. The manga doesn't sugar coat all the difficult things that may happen in the future and it has never tried to make a fairy tale version about abuse and rape, it showed you how horrible it is and how much that can scar a person, maybe for life. It also doesn't tell you that Aikawa now is magically completely healed because of Daisuke, no, she is seriously traumatized physically & mentally, she may or may not recover from it, but Daisuke loves her so much, and his love it's so selfless (because he just wants what is the best for her) that he will not hurt her further, instead he may start to help her heal... Little by little.

The ending is open and uncertain, but that's how life is.

Finally, someone who sees it the same way that I do! And I did read this too when I was in school.

i re read this after a looong time and it pisses me off how everyone's like "he loves her despite all thet" like what? rape victims don't deserve love? wtf?

Shindere May 28, 2019 8:14 pm

Who said anything about deserving love? If anything, people who are undeservingly harmed deserves to be love more than anyone else cause they need it more than anyone else. But whether or not they receive that love isn't up to them. It's up to other people.

A person's love is theirs to give. If they don't want to then they don't have to. That's cause loving someone can be hard and risky. That is why you'll have to carefully pick who you give your love to.

Given that logic, it was amazing that Daisuke would choose to give his love to Aikawa despite knowing that it was gonna be hard and risky. This is not to say that Aikawa don't deserve love. This is to say that Daisuke is a very good person to give his love to Aikawa. You just misinterpret as us saying that Aikawa don't deserve love.

Shindere April 16, 2019 8:02 pm

After reading the story, I keep asking myself again and again whether nor not I'll choose to love someone like Aikawa. And honestly, I probably won't. If, like Daisuke, I knew about her past from the very get go, I'll probably never be able to love her.

But in the story, Daisuke was able to love her despite knowing her past from the start. He was able to look past all of it and choose to love her despite everything. Most MC falls in love first and then finds out about the past. But unlike the typical MC, Daisuke new from the get go and still choose to fall in love. And unlike the typical MC, the feeling he has for Aikawa isn't pity or sympathy. He genuinely loves her and accept her for who she is. That, to me, is simply amazing.

Any normal person will be too repulsive to love someone like Aikawa. Not unless they themselves have a big personal baggage, they'd rather choose to love someone that's less complicated and uninflicted. But Daisuke's character is able to overlook that and deeply fall for her despite being normal. He is honestly someone who is larger than life. And I admire that a lot.

In fact, that is what I want to see in manga and anime. Not things that any typical person can do but great and admirable things that typical people can't and will probably never do. It's characters like them that helps me to remain hopeful about manga and anime despite having to read through typical anime MC one after another.

You think she is repulsive? Are you hollow inside? What a waste of time, I need some bleach to cleanse my eyes from reading your nasty thoughts

What a stupid hypocrite who only wants to say nice things so that he/she'll look good in front of other people. First of all, I never once said that she is repulsive. So stop twisting my words you pathetic little twat.

Secondly, it is only logical that a person who was emotionally and physically abused will have to face more struggle and more drama than other people. Not to mention that she also adopted her child. Meaning that in order to marry her, you have to accept all her baggage as well.

Rather than going for her, I'd rather go for an average girl. Not because she is repulsive but being with her would mean more stress and more struggle. Which will increase the odds of a bad ending in a relationship.

The fact that you don't even think about these stuff and just go with your pathetic little feelings shows that you're the truly hollow one inside. Someone who is so blinded by her self righteous that it blinds her from the truth.

There are more than 7 billion people in the world. Depending on your sexual preference, you are able to have romantic feelings for at least 3.5 billion of them. Out of that 3.5 billion, at max, you'll meet about 1000 of them. And within that 1000, at max, you'll date about 100 of them. Which means that there are still 3,499,999,000 people out there whom you haven't even met yet lead alone date.

Given that statistic, chances are, there is bound to be someone out there who's better for you than the person you're with. But despite knowing that, you still choose to love the person you're with. And that is what matters. Not that you can love them more but because you choose to love them.

Despite knowing that you might not be together forever, despite knowing that there might be someone out there who's better for you, you choose to love the person you're with anyway. That is the meaning behind the ending. They both know that there is someone out there whom would be a better fit for the other person. But despite knowing that, they choose to love and be with each other now.

In the real world, there is no such thing as happily ever after. Just people who choose to be together despite all the unhappiness. And in reality, there is no such thing as love at first sight, and there is no such thing as the one and only. Love is not found, bought, or taken. It is grown. That is what this story is all about.

If you prefer typical action story like Shounen manga and all that childish stuff, you will not like Bitter Virgin. Consequently, if you like psychological story with gore and jacked up stuff, you will not like Bitter Virgin either. That's because Bitter Virgin is stuck in between. An ugly and serious story that is pure and innocent at the same time.

Bitter Virgin is about a story of a girl whom no one can love and the boy who love her. A story to show that loving someone isn't simply about liking them. To love someone is being able to love them despite their past. To love someone is being able to love them despite not knowing that you'll be together forever. That is the take of the story. And that is the meaning behind the ending.

I mean for a heavy story, it sure has abrupt ending. The plot was kinda like bunny hop in the beginning. Then it suddenly turn to cheetah leap and fall into an endless ravine.

The reality and strength to face it, is very nicely shown in the second last page of this manga.
Very nicely written, everything is totally real life related. Characters have mature and rational thinking.
Tragedy and coping with its consequences, really made me cry.
