My major in uni is BA Japanese, starting in Sept. In the meantime I am learning Korean and in uni I want to learn Mandarin :) Korean is easy to learn for me as Korean's and Japanese's grammar is exactly same as my native tongue, Turkish. I also have experience learning languages by self-study (I learned English and French by self-studying) So hopefully I'll nail Korean by Sept :)
Good luck. :D They are really different, but at the same time, they have some similarities which will make it easier for you. Some words are shared with Chinese, like "Manga/Manhua", and "Jidai/Sidae". I've only really learned about the Korean reading/writing system, and memorizing the Hangul, which was really cool, even though I forgot most of it already.
