My parents don't know what yaoi is, but my brothers do. They aren't as liberal and open to LGBT related stuff (even if this stuff is generally written by women for a female audience) as compared to other social and cultural fads. Since many yaoi are explicit porn with plot stories, they'd assume I'm gay because I like this stuff being a guy. I believe that I may be gay and I'm in the closet, so I wouldn't tell my parents who don't know enough about gay people other than common stereotypes that I'm into this stuff. Only my twin brother and a few close friends are aware of my interest in yaoi. My recent exploration of Bara manga, borne out of curiosity and interest is something I'd much rather keep to myself.
