Spoilers ahead:

Trash. I thought this was gonna be good but alas it was trash. I really did waste my goddamn time reading what I thought was a great love story but was actually just a jerk off to lonely men who can't get a 100% submissive woman. They don't feel like real people even with all the drama and boo hoos its not very well written fuck.

First the female lead, aoi. At first i was fond of her but along the way she was written way too linear that her obsession with kaoru never was questioned to be too much. This is a girl with an unhealthy life whose entire worth only revolves around one guy and she never really developed to have a back bone for herself. She's always way too understanding of him and his infidelity despite his "loyalty" that the manga tries to portray him of. We more of the woes of kaoru than we ever learned anything of her, she's just kaoru 100% in the inside and that's sad because I really wanted to loved her. If this manga was realistic, she would eventually realize she's too good to like a guy she barely known enough to give him 18 years of her life in dedication.

Second the male lead, kaoru. My god did I want to like him as well. He was great at first but ever since the harem came in and the conflict arrived it really did only shown his true character and nobody was really able to see it for real because cor whatever he did people thought he was great but they don't realize that they're mostly giving him way too much understanding because their standard is low. Tsukasa did more for makino in hana yori dango than this guy could ever do for aoi and they are both in the same position of power. This dude never really had an arc, it just looked like it but no. The one who ultimately fixed it for him was aoi who thrown away her legacy yet again to a guy who was never really able to fight for her. He said he would be the heir but it was too difficult, aoi understands. But all I can see him is a guy he got let off a huge burden when it was supposed to be an important moment. Im not asking him to stay and be the heir but he really didn't try hard enough in comparison to her devotion.
Now moving on to his infidelity. He was chill with every other girl except for that american bitch. He had no romantic feelings for her but he never really placed any boundaries on that girl. He lets her touch him too much and even lets her kiss him. They stay in the same bed twice and even if they didn't do anything the girl did kiss him so many times without his consent. Just imagine aoi doing that with someone else, I would wonder if he could realize his mistake, I mean he already seen aoi cry before. Also this guy can never say no to that bitch as well. He lets her on to be her fake boyfriend and he lets it be because she's going back to america. She makes him imagine she's naked and he has this brief moment of seeing her as that and quite frankly that's emotional fucking cheating, he did this twice, the first one was when he doubted if aoi was the right one, granted hie didn't pull through but it's still disgusting because like i said everything in comparison to aoi, he lacks so much. Everytime it was aoi who needed him , its either he mopes , gets angry , or self pities. When he does something it's always overshadowed by what she does instead. Like really how can a guy like that deserve aoi? The only guy who deserves aoi is a well written guy whose character development is as intense as the mc from gantz and I dont even like gantz lol.

Now to that american bitch. I really don't get why she needs to exist. Take her away and nothing really changes much. She took too much screen time when she's just a case of boo hoo. She confesses to him that she never should let go of aoi as a favor to her , the rejected one. Fucking mc was feeling sad and while I get it, you still don't let other women kiss you even as a consolation price. Imagine again if a guy aoi rejected kissed her, I really doubt it would end well. She acts like she's so important to the story but no she's not and its a shame that the other girls were never given the same limelight. It really made this bitch look special, especially when she's always given double page spread. What is it with this character???? Plus lol aoi-full on japanese vs this american girl?? How original. Btw, she acts like if she confesses first she would date him but before the start she was never in kaoru 's head. She was just a guy friend who so happened to have boobs. And really i mean it really, she wanted to take advantage of kaoru and steal him away during his most vulnerable moments. The only thing stopping her was the fact that he was an a fortress because he cares more for aoi. Granted she was also supposed to be a friend to aoi.

Man the ending.
Was so disappointing. He gets kissed by all of his harem in front of aoi too. She lets it happen fuck, there's no girl in their right mind who would do that no matter how strong your love is , she ought to ask for more. Btw the american vitch also gets more of the screen time for the rest of the last chapters. I hate it. Gets a double page spread for kissing him goodbye, he doesn't even like it, at least the underage girl kisses him too on the lips just to balance it out, wished everyone kissed him on the lips as well so this bitch wouldn't look special because really she really isn't oh my god she isn't. She was never really a huge contender. If lets say she and kaoru dated first before aoi? Our dude would go to aoi because she's that amazing. He can't even open up to her even when they were friends lol. It was only aoi who can understand his pain and everything about him. Everything that bitch is gonna get is an illusion of love from a guy who doesn't even know what it's supposed to be until aoi showed him how (yet even then he never really measured up)

The only girl i like here was miyabi. If she was a dude, id rather aoi ended up with her.

Yeah i never write this long but it really pissed me off. The story appeared yo be this sweet love story but in reality it was only a jerk off piece for lonely men. The mc doesn't feel like a real character when she has so much potential to be great. The guy was just kind that's it. Sure he never loved anyone else but he also didn't appear to care to stay away from women's advances in thought of aoi while aoi can't even let herself think of another guy. The difference in devotion. The only thing this guy could give to a girl who did it all was to make her a bride and get a job. Great, shes happy but really? Wtf, thats such a cop out. And pls the harem ending should have ended in rejection instead of continuity. All these girls lacks self respect because harem logic lol. We never even got to see aoi and kaoru's married life with children. They focused more on the harem. My head cannon, the manga ended right after they said goodby to the mansion and they never had to interact with the shitty excuse of a family that the harem was. That or aoi actually met a better man.

What could have been a really one of a kind rare find of a manga that started out very well between the two. They tried to find time for eachother, working hard for eachother, then suddenly harem comes in to ruin it, they weren't even needed tbh. Then the american bitch took over because she needs to go back to america, like why not have sex as well while your at it? I mean really? Its fucking annoying. Its sure sad to get rejected but the only right thing to deal with it is not kindness but a firm rejection and my guy wasn't even able to give that out of what mercy? Lol. I really miss those first moments between the main couple.... Its sad it turned out this way. I really wanted to see the best of them, MORE of them and their moments than a secondary character that wasn't even relevant.

It was very wholesome and worth seeing the development of Ao-Chan and Kaoru-dono's relationship, however, I found the fanservice annoying at times and some of the girls were quite obnoxious and it got boring at times. I did get a lot of cute screenshots out of it though!!!!

Typical slice of life. I wished the author to show more concerning his past life at the hanabishi's home. Chap 57 he's strong to stand it. The girl's giving him so much flowers. The hanabishi treatment on the mc's was necessary to prepare a strong spirit for the heir of the family and to face any suffering as the lost of dear one's. Aoi is so simple minded wanted him to live at ease unconscious about social duties. Chap 140.5 show's forced smile, showing how men's désires are difficult to satisfy. But the end is a plausible one even if I'm OK with mikodami comments on this manga.

This is a manga which is very difficult to rate for me. First of all, it is a harem. Which I generally don't like, since in harem stories the male protagonists are usually so grotesquely idealized that it hurts and the women wet their pants the moment they see them. Well, it's like this here too, to a certain degree. But then it's not. While Kaoru and Aoi still seem impossible to me, most of the girls' affections are deeply moving and have this true feeling to them. I love the character portrayal and their development. And the story of Tina is simply heart breaking.
The second problem is the silliness of great parts of the story, barely avoiding the slapstick level, which I despise. But where the real story is told, especially in the second half, the content becomes more than satisfying. The story becomes thrilling. The emotions are deeper. And the drama is tangible. In these parts "Ai Yori Aoshi" becomes a masterwork.
The very ending is a bit disappointing, since I was counting on some real story climax, after this thrilling buildup. But at least it's satisfying and there is a nice wrap-up as a closure.
So in the end I'm stuggling with the final verdict. But to be true to my own rating guidelines, I have to give it four stars, since I loved a lot about it and I plan to read it again sometime in the future, despite it's 17 volumes.

I am glad Aoi and Kaoru got together, I really believe they were fated to be with each other for forever. I do feel a big sad for the rest of the girls but I'm glad each one move on.
