i love how detailed the background art is, especially the building where akira was kept... it was like the author drawn out a model of the entire building, every nook and cranny of it before planning out the action in which it would take place. and the romance is honestly pretty good. i love the themes of the rebellious nature of youth vs corrupt govt and humanity vs profound power, what could happen if such immense power was attempted to be tamed by mere humans, and putting it in the hands of children no less... obviously, disastrous results.
Reading Akira was so amazing I’m sooo mad they never had my baby Chiyoko in the movie, like she a DOG. So many things i wish was better in the movie like how apocalyptic shit got, the characters, more detailed info, and mf Akira himself.
I know this is a classic and all, but I didn't like this at all. and even though the artwork is pretty good, the story is just meh. main characters appeared to be one sided and no character development at all. kaneda and tetsuo started off as annoying and ended the same throughout the whole manga, but I liked some characters like kei, and chiyako, even ryu. even the title character akira is boring and he just exists as a plot device, other children are more interesting. maybe I'm just expecting a lot more considering it is called one of the best. It may be influential and even nostalgic for most people but reading it now late, in 2022, just didn't worked for me. If you like post apocalyptic cyberpunk artwork with a lame story then this is for you.
