This is definitely one of his better one shots. It showed everything it needed to & got the point across. It’s really interesting because I thought their compliments were unnatural, but I assumed it was natural for the universe it took place in. In the end I realized they were all putting on a show, confirming my initial feelings. I’m glad the one who seemed like the villain ended up being a friend
everyone is denying the existence of the monster in the room, until they want to look like good people. then they flatter, but still ignore the humanity of, the monster in the room. only one girl recognizes how disingenuous and hypocritical her classmates are. an insightful review called it 'dehumanizing pity,' which i thought summed it up pretty well. fabulous art and writing, as always.
kinda get the message from this blog: http://curlicuecal.tumblr.com/post/172316910145/saintdane05-iwilleatyourenglish-this-is-from but the part of her becoming an inspiration porn is kind of hard for me to comprehend or I'm just slow to get to
Quite good. Exactly what the tumblr post offered lol; dehumanizing pity. Only being noticed when "useful" and as soon as it becomes unattractive - your opinions, your maladaptive coping mechanisms, your true self in any way, these fair weather friends take flight. Very enjoyable. I wish it weren't complete! I'd love to read more
Strange and sad little story regarding the worth we put on people based on their appearance and what they can do for us. I like the message, but I wish this sort of story could last longer. It sucks that girls like this, either monstrous in appearance or just outside of typical beauty, can really only exist in some sort of moral tale to highlight the fact that we care too much about looks.
