I went and looked at spoilers because the story is crawling too slow for me. Glaciers probably melt faster than this story is progressing. I have trouble with shoujo, and after skimming through the spoilers for this story, it's as cliche as it gets. I've seen dozens of anime, read some light novels, and read probably 400+ manga at this point, a lot of them supernatural shoujo. So it feels like I've read better, more exciting versions of this story. Basically our lead girl will be ending up with the Odanna oni. Somehow, they're going to fall in love and get married, and I just don't get it. I'm up to ch16 and I don't get why she's hesitating to go back home. Considering the oni has threatened her repeatedly, I don't get how she starts feeling anything for him at all this soon. How do you like, how can you stand, someone who basically threatened your life? Is technically holding you against your will, although not anymore since she was released and she went back for some reason. It just makes me wonder what kind of life she lived that she's okay living in a world full of monsters that would want to eat her instead of going to the home she knew. You don't have a family so you're lonely? Here's a genius idea, if you live in the human world, you can make one. I don't just mean getting married and having kids, she doesn't seem like the kind of person who would have a hard time making friends. So why can she not think of a good reason to go back home, why does she even need to think about it, her life got threatened several times but you don't think that's a good reason to not stay?

I don't get why shoujo manga are like this, the girls fall for guys who were jerks to them all the time, or at least most of the time, for really no good reason at all because often the guy loved the girl the whole time but could not just come out and act nice. The slow pace of this story works against it for me, especially with the MC's too kind (or too stupid) attitude. Why, when the monsters treat her unkindly, does she forget way too quickly? Also, when trouble arises, why does she keep rushing to see what's going on? I know it's for plot convenience because sure as hell, if a normal person was in a world full of monsters that could potentially harm or even kill you, the common sense thing to do is to stay as far away as possible. Our mc doesn't do that, when there's no way she could even help. The logical thing to happen would be like in Blood Lad, mc fell in a land full of monsters and died almost immediately (the story went on with her as a ghost.)

Anyway, I'm ranting at this point, but I did figure out genji knew way more than he was letting on about the ayakashi that fed aoi as a kid. It was both of them, I even found spoilers behind the real reason the Odanna is forcing marriage on her. He knew her as a kid, he wants to protect her, and somehow he's in love with her (I don't see how or why, maybe he falls in love with her at some point in the story because if he loved her before that's just an extra level of creepy.) But really, he didn't have to force marriage on her to protect her so what the hell. That just makes it seem like she gets manipulated into accepting it. If her motivation to go back was more about finding this ayakashi and thanking them, I'd be perfectly okay with it, but the manga makes it seem as if part of the reason is the Odanna no matter what she says, but why? Because he's sort of good looking? If he was an ugly or old looking ayakashi, let's get real, she'd run for the hills at the earliest opportunity. And therein lies my problem. Shoujo heroines often fall for the ml even when he's being a jerk, because of looks. They sure as hell don't know enough about them when those feelings start sprouting so it can only be the face. I just want her to be a little angrier and for him to be a little nicer, maybe apologize for threatening her, because at the moment, I want to punch them both.

The only characters I really like so far are Genji (every form of his is cute) and Suzuran (I hate spiders but her spider form is so cute
