Evan Pryce is a celebrated New York Times reporter who has been ordered by his editor to cover an out-of-state story: "real" ghost sightings in a secluded village in the countryside. After ten days of driving by sleepy rural villages with zero results, our lost and exhausted New Yorker is just about ready to give up. But then suddenly, a road sign pointing to "Roureville" catches his eye. Little does he know that the end of his long road trip is just the beginning of an incredible tale.

the mystery and the thrill in this was amazing. though it left a little sloppy it was good. as a bl fan i find the main couple really cute and the drama with it was also good. but i wouldn't call it a master piece

Beautiful ending to a beautiful story as much as its tragic "everything is in place" TuT I love the psychological and slice of life of it eventhough mixing with fantasy but that's what really bring out the emotion and sweet couple too though I want more TAT

A celebrated writer for the NYT finds the city a little too hot to hold him and is sent out on a goose-chase to check up on the rumors that a ghost appears in a sleepy midwest town too remote to appear on any map. When he finally arrives, all of the residents are odd and hostile, and everyone has secrets - even the beautiful young man who offers to let him stay in his house.

From start to finish, this was an absolute treat and a highly unusual in entry in the genre. It starts out as a genuinely compelling mystery as we follow our hardened, cynical, and short-tempered protagonist on his quest to learn just what is up with this bizarre town. The story takes its time to unfold, but I wouldn't precisely consider it a 'slow-burn'-type story, exactly, since there really is nothing slow about this manga at all. However, neither is it rushed: both the romance and the revelations about the town are given time to develop. It is by turns creepy, comedic, strange, tragic, and heart-stoppingly romantic without ever becoming tonally incoherent (if you are wondering if this is a tragedy, see the CW at the end to avoid spoilers).

In case it wasn't obvious, there is a lot that I loved about this manga, so I'll just name a few here. I think most of all I enjoyed the progression of the main character, whose background is in its own way another mystery to be unraveled. He isn't especially likeable or 'good' from the start, which makes his personality feel more real and his arc that much more satisfying. While the art style will probably take a little getting used to for some readers, I liked the slightly stylized characters and I thought the drawings were quality throughout. I know some folks found it confusing, but I thought it wasn't at all. It starts with a mystery, sure, but it never lost me. For all the ways this story breaks the mold, there is an oddly out of place "I AM NOT GAY" thing that happens, but it's really barely a blip on the radar.

So in short, highly, highly recommended. Particularly if you're looking for something a little weird, a little out of the ordinary. But even if you're not, if you don't mind sitting tight for a bit for the story to unfold before you get to the romance, you're really in for a treat with this one. See below for CW.

There is some violence and blood, and a character with suicidal thoughts and depictions of self-harm. I didn't think there was anything too exploitative, but it also isn't precisely a hyper-realistic picture of mental illness. There is a lot of allusions to people dying and some character death, but this isn't a tragedy overall - it has a very well-earned happy ending, if that kind of thing worries you. No rape/dubcon.

I'm sorry, most will probably disagree with me but... I found this sooooo boring and very confusing. Jayce has 0 character development for a whole volume (and then some), and the main character is like... I don't even know. He's arrogant? I guess? I mean like his whole persona is confusing to me? All I can really tell about him is that he's bored and he's a chain smoker. That's it.
I dunno man, I can't really recommend this one.

it's a mixed bag. the story drags a bit, and almost all the side characters are interchangeable and turn out to be kind of inconsequential, evan gets on my nerves a bit, and the whole reading people's mind thing comes and goes as its convenient to the story, but i genuinely liked jayce and the reason for his problem, and how it was solved. some issues could be attributed to translation, some to just sloppy writing. the art is decent, but inconsistent as well.

Omg! This is like a Hollywood movie but better! I loved it so much! Very touchy and emotional. Wish there were more like this one.

This was incredibly good, given the confusing first chapters. (Later on it all makes sense in retrospect, but I think the information could have been presented in a more cohesive fashion.) It's on my must-read list and received a rare 5* from me for its unexpectedly deep portrayal of hidden pain, and how healthy relationships can teach us to live more beautiful lives. The primary theme for all the characters seemed to be "create a fresh start in your life".
