OK I just want to say, since this is never something I never really notice, but the title "Recommended Reading For Teens" is so cunt like I love that.

When it comes to the actual story, it's good. It's rated 3 stars but specifically if I could, it would've been more like 3.5. Because on a technical level, it's good—the plot wasn't awfully convoluted, the characters had strong characterization, and the relationship had good development that didn't feel forced or have poor pacing. But . . . It just wasn't really something I cared for. It just didn't feed me the way I want to be fed from BL, though I know many other people are going to like this.

My feelings for this story have kind of changed even as I type this; I was initially going to say that it probably had one or two more chapters than it needed, but the more I sit on it, the more I'm finding myself liking it and think the last two chapters benefit the plot.

The first two chapters were set in the main character's high school years; Imai gets caught reading BL by his classmate Kounosu, and they quickly get into a physically intimate relationship, though for Imai it gets more emotional and because of that it kind of crumbles, like any other situationship. There's a rift between them and it flashforwards 4 years, where they find themselves coincidentally being neighbors in an apartment complex. Imai gets a plumbing leak above him which drips into his apartment, causing him to live with Kounosu for a few months. A few chapters are dedicated to them mending their rift and falling in love (or Kounosu confessing he liked him all this time, honestly it's a bit hard to say. It totally could just be me misremembering), so the conflict is relatively short-lived but it's very direct and simple. It's emotional. The last two chapters are them in their relationship, dealing with what comes with it.

What I liked from the last few chapters was the Kounosu's emotional conflict. He kind of struggles with verbalizing the desire he feels for Imai beyond the vanilla, he doesn't want Imai to think Kounosu just sees the relationship as something just physical, like he did when they were teens. This small subplot was actually very sweet to me, and the more I think about it, the more I think this was my favorite part of the story. It felt real, for a lack of a better word. It was a real conflict, a real struggle people have in relaitonships, and seeing Imai reassure him was just super cute.

Aww this was really well done. It was sad that he couldn’t understand what he did wrong when he was a kid but the fact that they got together in the end after reflection, I really liked it

Shun Imai is a shy, quiet boy who struggles with the idea that he may be gay. One day, he is found reading a BL novel by his classmate Kounosu, who calls him out on it. Although Imai is surprised and anxious, Kounosu says “I want to know more about you…”
