ok wtf, like everyone said, the afterword is messed up as fuck bc the author just goes off on a rant about how gay people are driven towards death and wanting to die because they can't make babies thru gay sex. specifically, the author is on some freudian psychoanalysis shit which is PROVEN bullshit. like just look up oedipus complex, penis envy, stages of psychosexual development. it's all fucking weird and has NO basis in science. all his shit about unconscious drives only became popularized at the time because they were easy answers that the public gobbled up. pretty sure it had to do with post-war disillusionment but have to fact check that. and it still survives today bc it's ~~~edgy~~~ and people love coming up with theories about unprovable repressed drives to explain patterns in behavior. so sad that this author clearly has storytelling talent yet can't think critically about this issue.
Author's note made no sense. She's basically saying that since gay people cannot reproduce they instinctively crave death? This is just wrong because unless medically infertile everyone has the capability to reproduce but they can chose for themselves whether they want to or not. There are plenty of both gay men and women who still biologically reproduce with the use of surrogates and donors.
