This was a novel that was turned into a manhua. Novel is finished but not translated. (You can use google translate though) That’s why sometimes the manhua jumps and seems to leave out scenes, I guess the artist had a hard time figuring out how to tell all the narration in the novel through little text and just pictures. The original novel (秋以为期) reads better than the manhua. Like in the Intro, the way they introduce the Bian Yiqiu’s background, in the manhua they say he doesn’t have a kindergarten education yet runs a big business. But in the book, they say he has never read a book but there are only two things he needs to do: know people and how to use them. That’s how he turned a gangster organization into a legitimate business. The novel introduces him right off the bat as less of an idiot. He’s not supposed to be an idiot, he just isn’t educated but he has high IQ (according to the novel).
Before crossing paths with Ke Mingxuan, Chief Bian was the walking epitome of overbearing tyranny. Without Ke Mingxuan in it, his life would have undoubtedly continued to be blissful. However, as fate would have it, that was not what happened. His encounter with Ke Mingxuan would prove to be the most excruciating pain he would ever experience, both metaphorically and very literally.
