Comments of Yae no Sakura

This is fucking tragic...thou I'm not bias to anything I know that all the counties have tragic histories war or so that spilled the a lot of lives. But those war help us achieve peace to stand where we are now.

Man, the character art was cute so even though I avoid historical comics (cuz people die easily) I thought this wouldn't be so bad, especially with only 11 chapters, but I cried so much! I really don't like the old Japanese tradition of seppuku, I just want the characters to live, however they can, so this hit a raw nerve for me....

very... shounen sensibilities? infused with honor and the sense of bucking all odds, but this means that whatever tragedy exists was cheapened

whatever negative i have to say about this manga itself, i'm still very drawn to its source material. niijima yae is a fascinating character of history - skilled in gunnery in a time when women were not remotely permitted in the domain of education, much less warfare, a divorcee (!!!), a student, a teacher, remarried to an englishman, founder of the first women's academy in japan - could there be a more timely, likely woman? and speaking of the depiction of her marriage to shonosuke - i think the mangaka was aware of the underlying mercenary nature of the marriage, and tried infusing it - unsuccessfully, in my opinion - with romance. its pragmatism still managed to eke out in the margins, and it was very fascinating to see even in such sensationalist literature

revisionist, yes, sensationalist, but not necessarily propagandist. interesting.

although it was a happy ending for the FL, i'm still distraught because of what happened to the other characters LOL

It's really sad shounsuke-sama died, but at least the brother survived! I hope yae-san will continue to love him even though his dead.
