Volume 1 laid the foundation for who the MC and ML are, while also introducing those they hold in their hearts, a.k.a. their long, unrequited loves who have more of a hold on them than either would care to admit. Volume 2 goes more into detail about the MC being used to having unrequited loves and choosing not to make his feelings known, watching from the sidelines. Meanwhile, the ML had one that lasted longer than he thought, keeping all the letters and memories that keep him and his heart chained in the past with undealt-with scars. I am glad that the closure from the MC and his ex-friend was watching from a distance and acknowledging he finally found his own happiness and being at peace with it, that was nice and refreshing tbh.
