well..... what can i say. Wasn't really warming up to the start, but as we kept chugging along, I found myself liking the characters and story a good bit. For example, the part with the teacher and his shut-in daughter getting a nice resolution was really satisfying, and the somewhat emotional parts of the manga actually shined pretty well, with what it has to say about hard work and effort, and just an overall openness to things. It was one chapter in particular that talked about what normal means, and how it is dumb to try and categorize somehting as normal because everyone essentially derives normality from their own lived experiences, and for an ecchi comedy manga it's not something i really expected to resonate with. And the whole kiss scene between sarina and yukimori was pretty dramatically sapphic.
Some parts will not age well, like all the weird stuff with the teacher and yukimori. like when he remarks that a "real" highschooler is on his bed for the first time and if his jizz stained blankets would impregnate her, or when he touches her with sun screen or self inserts her as the princess and love interest in his manga, but also a lot of that type of jargon really just comes with most anime. im reading and ecchi manga starring mainly highschoolers i'm not gonna be shocked when the fanservice is on these highschoolers. am i happy with it? No, I mean, fan service in general is kinda meh to me (wow, such an original opinion), but after consuming anime for so long, I've become almost desensitized to it. Is that good? Um probably maybe not, but it allowed me to appreciate the good that shines through in this manga for me, which i guess is good??
A lot of stuff was actually funny, like the yuri gag manga with the oyster and clam that fuji drew had me actually invested. Fuji in general was pretty funny with his repeated refusals of sarina which is a pretty big 180 from the type of character you expect from fuji who's introduced as basically a horny dumbass. The teacher has a lot of good moments and is surprisingly like the secondary protagonist, from grumbly temp to actual mangaka who's reignited his passion for the art. The assistant fujoshi is also always a highlight when shes on screen. SHe's funny and by all standards probably the most morally upstanding individual here. Serina who's suprisingly desperate and the ultimate lesbian tease for yuki was fun. She really didn't get as much screentime that i thought she would have gotten but man am i glad they sorta techncially did get together there at the end.
So a weird charming series that i probably won't be reccomending to many but that i enjoyed a decent amount of. Some of the chapters near the start were a bit of a grind for me but it got rolling near the end. (also the manga concept of a dead mom looking over her daughter from the pov of a classmate of the daughter who can see her spirit is a fire ass concept) Like a weird 7.5/10.
