I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting. It's definitely not the place to go if you're looking for a super insightful look on like the horrors of war, but I still like it's message. The first couple chapters were a bit slow and almost lost me, but once it picks up I was rlly into it.
I like stories that are optimistic and very passionate about the lesson they're trying to teach. I think the choice to make Nana an amnesiac was great, and it helped reinforce the theme rather than just be a trope. He explores different motivations to behind war and why people oppose them. I think seeing him start out as an idealist, become confused as his thoughts are challenged, lose all hope, and then settle on a more realistic but still optimistic goal was great. It's a pretty standard hero's journey, but I thought it was executed well. In general I find Nana as a character very appealing I really enjoyed him, I wish they'd spent some more time showing his relationship with Nil, Ichiko and Santes so their death felt a bit more impactful, but I understand mangas have to throw in their hook in the first chapter so the author did the best they could.
I also lovedd Shiro she's wonderful. I wasn't expecting such a well written female character from a manga like this lol. Her fight with her mom was one of my favourite parts I found everything about it very well done. I just love Shiro.
Shiro and Nana's relationship was also something I wasn't expecting to enjoy so much. Never in a million years did I expect one of my favourite male female friendships to come out of this manga LMAO. I think the way they interact and care about each other is very genuine and sweet. They don't really get along but they have similar goals and look up to each other. It's cute I really like it, you don't often get to see platonic relationships like this between men and women. Honestly their relationship was so well written I wouldn't have even minded if the author had decided to develop some romance between them, but I'm glad they stuck to keeping them friends. Lesbian and genderfluid solidarity you love to see it.
Last thing I wanna throw in is I LOVE the art style. I'm a huge fan of art like this I miss it.
Anywayssssss it's not a perfect story but I had fun. I'd recommend it.
