Finally finished this oughh this took way longer than I expected. Tbh I would normally rate it 3 stars, but there are a few characters and relationships I really and they're enough to bump it up to 4.
The plot is pretty interesting, but it can be kinda rough in execution sometimes. There are a lot of plot points that get dropped and brought up suddenly. Characters are revealed as traitors with little to no build up so the reveals fall flat. I also found that whole death game arc with Kouga at the beginning soooo boring. It dragged I nearly dropped it there. I like the themes of justice and what it means to be human, but eh a lot of the plot was kinda rough to get through. There are also a few missing chapters that I didn't care enough about to look for elsewhere LOL.
The characters I liked carried it quite a bit. Jin, Hanako, Akemi and Sanae my goats. Jin is a cutie patootie. I just really like characters that continue to try to be good despite all the bad things that have happened to them. I rlly like Jin being motivated by his love for other people. He could've very easily been a jaded and edgy mc, especially with his personality, but he continues to be very kind and worried about others. I find it very sweet I love characters like that.
Hanako :( Hanako my baby you deserved better. She was so cute and I wish her being the kid of two g2's was explored more outside of one flashback... Removing her from the plot for so long rlly messed with her development. I just love her my favourite character she could've done so much more and to that person in the comments who spoiled her death just so they could say they prefer Konoha x Jin... FUCKKKKKK YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!! UR OTP IS ASS HANAKO X JIN 4EVER!!!!
Speaking of Konoha... she was the biggest wasted potential... she didn't rlly do anything outside of worrying about Jin and being too scared to do anything about her crush. At the start I had hope she'd join Kouga's engineer team cuz that could've been a cute dynamic and given her much needed characterization outside of Jin, but noooo.... She feels underdeveloped and I can't rlly get invested in her relationship with Jin cuz tbh they don't rlly interact in any meaningful way. Like they knew each other for a long time, but all of their interactions felt pretty superficial. It seemed like they were acquaintances more than anything.
I have mixed feelings on the way women are written in general. They have fun personalities & don't feel like stereotypical cardboard cut outs (for the most part), but they don't rlly do much for the plot. Like aside from being motivation for male characters, they don't contribute to any plans or being key characters like a villain or anything. Sanae is the only female character whose main role is something other than just being emotional support for a male character. There's also the issue of fan service and SA, which does get toned down quite a bit after the first 100-ish chapters. I'm not that much of a fan service hater, but I do have an issue when it comes in the form of multiple underage girls being assaulted. That was part of why I disliked that death game arc so much... the amount of sa felt gratuitous. Also ouhhh Kouga's girlfriend, I think her name way Mayu? I'm just gonna call her that... she has interesting trauma and I would've liked to see more of her relationship with Kouga, but she never shows up again after he turns down her advances. I'm soooo disappointed that plot wasn't followed through I found it rlly interesting.
Anyways... Akemi & Jin found family mother son dynamic u mean everything to me I would literally kill for u. Not a funny thing to say after my beloved Hanako was literally killed because of that.... but whatever I'm grieving let me cope.
