These are my favorite works which I could recommend to anyone. They have amazing storytelling, characters, and moods. They innovate and intrigue. Some of them are just plain GOOD.
Because this list has become so heavily biased for serious and thoughtful works, I've made another for sillier, more feel-good and straight up smutty stuff. There's a little of that on this list (like Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun is just too funny to leave off), but the fun's over there. I also have a Romance only list.
Both leads are both super cute and likeable, and the art is AMAZING. The plot follows their relationship and the tensions between their two countries! :)
This isn't here because of some sweet romance, it's here because of the DRAMA. Hayame, the protagonist, is a bad-ass and the plot is super entertaining. Issei, the main love interest, can be annoying brat, but it doesn't take away from the expressive art or the story's wild ride: You'll just want to see Hayame succeed!
