Both MC and ML were subjects of experimentation in their youth. MC is an S-class guide and an A or B-class Esper And ML is an S-class Esper with a special ability MC is hiding his abilities to protect himself from his father, the one who subjected him to experimentation in the first place.

MC is a guide and a tired and scarred veteran whose retirement has been repeatedly postponed. He finally dies only to come back in another body and find that his partner desperately needs guiding and refuses to get any.
