An older yakuza and younger lawyer pairing. Hilarious and sexy interactions, but has moments that really tug at the heartstrings.
One of my all-time favourites - what sets it apart from many other reads in the genre are its intensity, poetic narration and its ability to weave in non-BL themes that are still interesting. For these reasons, I feel it's also a great read to recommend someone who has never read BL before, or who has tried to and didn't like it. The pretty art is a bonus too.
Older and younger guy pairing. The older guy is a porn director, and the younger guy is a student whose mother owns a love hotel. The attraction builds slowly and it's super cute.
For a while, I was SO obsessed with this manga. It had everything I really liked: realistic progression, non-feminine characters and a helluva age gap. I liked that it was an actual plot theme; the age difference between them created a lot of angst since they had different interests and attitudes towards love.
Mizushiro Setona makes rather mature josei-ish manga. She does yaoi exceptionally well and this (along with the sequel Sojou No Koi Wa Nido Haneru) is probably her best creation in my opinion.
The story is a rocky, emotional rollercoaster and the characters are full of flaws that keep breaking their relationship down. To be honest, they're not good for each other and they keep hurting the other, but their attraction is so strong that they keep getting back together. Super intense and angsty.
Love the crazy and adrenaline pumping setting. And the art is to die for - full colour pages!
Warning: not for the faint of heart. It's a story of a boy who was sexually and physically abused by his stepfather. Intricate plot, and very long but never gets boring. I also like the Western, old school setting.
